Calamity Falls #10

Love Me Like You Do

Rate this book
How did the hottest hockey player in the NHL wind up braiding hair and hosting tea parties?

Because someone was foolish enough to name him co-guardian of their children. That's how.

Cole Montgomery's living his best life--until he gets a call from an attorney letting him know he's been entrusted with the care of two little girls. He can't imagine why anyone would think he was a good role model. He can't even keep a plant alive.

Lingerie designer Hailey Casselton grew up with a free-spirited mother. So, when she finds out she's the temporary co-guardian to two children, she's determined to give them the best Christmas they've ever had. Unfortunately, she has to live with the jerk from high school who ruined her senior year.

But she gets a glimpse of the man behind Cole's larger-than-life persona, and she likes what she sees. He might be used to living for himself, but he works hard to change his ways and meet the needs of these lost and scared girls. It doesn't take long for her to enter dangerous territory--falling for a guy who's never going to settle down.

Except...as much as Cole keeps saying he can't wait to get his freedom back...he can't deny these girls--and okay, even Hailey--have become the very best part of his life.

And he's not quite sure what to do about that.

Disjointed
This story has still more back and forth and back and forth, and another main male character who has everything he wants but bails on it. And since Cole is now a guardian for two little girls, wouldn't this be a good time to introduce Jaime's daughter? Even the town can't decide what it is--a small town full of just regular people that's also home to a movie star and some billionaires, not to mention a pro hockey team and an Olympic training facility.

Yeah, yeah, I’ve said books are sweet or cute before, but this book, y'all!! I got to fall in love four times and see several epic romances between one hero, one heroine, and two devastatingly adorable, broken-hearted little girls. This amazing story has filled my heart with so much happiness, it's trying to float away!

When his best friend and wife die in an auto accident, NFL player Cole Montgomery is named as a co-guardian for their two little girls, ages six and three. Healing from an injury gives Cole a little time to leave Boston and go to Calamity to check out the situation with the girls. He's probably the last person who should be a parent, but maybe he can be a safety net while a permanent solution is worked out.

Hailey Casselton is doing her best to get her fashion design business off the ground, working two jobs and living lean in her studio apartment in the city. When she gets word that her best friend from high school has named her co-guardian of her two young girls, Hailey drops everything and heads to Calamity. Imagine her surprise to find out her co-guardian is the guy from high school who made a lasting impression. A very unfavorable lasting impression. Despite that, Paisley and Evvie are her focus, and Hailey is determined to give them a happy Christmas.

Oh, my heart, y'all, this story is so emotionally overwhelming, I don’t have the words! It's poignant and bittersweet, charming and precious, and so dang heartfelt and satisfying! Your romantic heart doesn’t stand a chance against Paisley and Evvie. You'll wish you could wrap them in your arms, take them home with you, and do something all day, every day, that will put a smile in their broken little hearts.

The romance between Cole and Hailey is none too shabby either. They somehow manage to work together for the girls while correcting old misunderstandings and learning new things about themselves. This talented storyteller has such a way with words that you'll be drawn in effortlessly, then look up a few minutes later to find that you've spent hours with these characters. And you’ll be desperate for more, wishing it would never end.

I love this Calamity, WY, world where four childhood friends have the chance to renew their friendships thanks to their idol and former hockey coach. The town is quaint and inviting, and the secondary characters are so amazing I wish I could be friends with them all. I loved Kelly's amazing writing and Cole and Hailey's story so much that I’m now working my way through the other books in this series. Tender, captivating, evocative, and the best darn thing since sliced bread, I guarantee you won’t want to miss this one!

A second chance love story, the eleventh book in the Calamity Falls, WY series.
Hailey and Cole met in high school, their foursome, Darren, Lindsay, Hailey and Cole. Unfortunately he didn’t make the best impression on her. He’d had a hardcore crush on a girl who didn’t look or act like anyone he’d ever known. Two people thrust into instant guardianship, caring for two precious little girls. Once they bypassed their insecurities, it was enlightening to witness their confidence shine through.

Hailey and Cole reconnect when Lindsay and Darren, their best friends from high school, are killed in a car accident.

When his best friend Darren and his wife Lindsay die in a fatal auto accident, NFL player Cole Montgomery becomes co-guardian to their two precious little girls. Healing from an injury allows Cole a little time and space to visit Boston to assess the situation. He doesn’t see himself as being parent material, but perhaps he can be a safety net until a more permanent solution is found.

Hailey Casselton is doing her best to pursue her fashion design business, juggling two jobs and living frugally in her city flat.

Cole and Hailey find themselves blindsided, entrusted to oversee their high school best friends’ two precious girls.

Hailey and Cole plan to remain in Calamity Falls as they try to locate family members to adopt the girls.

Growing up with a bohemian mother, Hailey harboured a great deal of resentment towards her, as she flightily moved from one job to another. Without a reliable source of income, they often went without the basics, the things often taken for granted, such as electricity, Wi-Fi and food. She yearned to sleep in the same bed, have milk in the fridge…she wants stability.

Hailey, after years exhaustively creating her fashion line (robes), slowly building her inventory…her mother saw an opportunity for Hailey to launch her business and gave them all away. Devastated, she came home to find them all gone. It had taken her eighteen months of sacrificing to make them.

She’s notified that her best friend from high school Lindsay and her husband Darren were in a fatal accident, and that she’s been named co-guardian to their little girls, Paisley (6) and Everly/Evvie (3).

Lindsay and Darren had gone to Las Vegas for their anniversary and on the way back, an eighteen-wheeler spun out on black ice and, colliding with them. Their girls had been with neighbours.

They’d both gone to the girls out of a sense of obligation, a duty to their friendships. But the more time they spent with the girls, the more involved they became and the more it felt like the family neither of them had ever had. Two scared little girls, lost and alone, without anyone to ensure they’re safe and loved.

She’d let her career take precedence over the things in life such as her friendship with Lindsay. Other than her mum, she had no one in her life, as she spent every second of her free time designing lingerie.

Forced into close proximity, Hailey plans to spend the holidays with them as Cole hires a private investigator, ideally to place the girls with any extended family. In their eyes, they’re temporarily providing a safety net and a great Christmas, without getting attached.

Trying to find meals for two little girls, she suggests getting things he liked to eat as a kid.
Hoping for chicken fingers or fish sticks for a six and three year-old. Not Chateaubriand…or paella, chicken pot pie—or pesto pasta with fresh mozzarella.
Very sophisticated options for two little girls.
“I want shicken fingers,” Evvie said.
“Well, that’s not what I had when I was a kid.” He ate whatever Chef served him. “I ate Chateaubriand.” What was wrong with that? Everyone liked steak. “It’s the tenderloin. It melts in your mouth like butter.” He dropped a slice onto Paisley’s plate. “Here, try it.”
She shook her head, slapping her hand over her mouth.
“You’re not going to eat steak?”
She shook her head.
“Well, what do you want?”
“Chicken fingers.”
“I don’t have any. But I do have chicken pot pie. You can’t not like that.” With a serving spoon, he dumped some onto a plate. “Here, try it.” The steam wafted out, so he blew on it.
Both girls screwed up their faces and shook their heads.
“It looks like doggie throw-up,” Paisley said.
It kind of did. He took a bite, just to be sure. Delicious. “You’re seriously not going to even try chicken pot pie? Fine. Noodles, it is.” He served two helpings and pushed it in front of each girl.
Paisley stared as if he’d just spat on a plate. “It’s green.”

Impassioned, Hailey cannot remain detached.
“Maybe you can do that, but I can’t. Given what’s happened to them, how can we not comfort them? We have to give them more than a pillow and mac and cheese. We have to make them feel safe. Loved. They need to know they’re not alone. That we’ve got them.”

While everything she said was practical, he viewed it from a personal perspective. He personally knew how it felt to get attached, to have expectations, and to have that person move on as though he’d never existed.

Both Cole and Hailey experienced childhood distrust. Cole the son of an A-list actor, Trevor, yet raised by nannies. Cole’s father was twenty-two when he discovered he had a son. He’d just made his first break-out film and wanted to be there for him, but couldn’t. He realised he was going to miss just about everything. So, he hired someone to record it all. His practices, games, everything. Left to a series of nannies, Cole bears his own insecurities.

Hailey is the daughter of an irresponsible costume designer. It’s unexplained the reason she was kicked out from Lindsay’s house.

Their constant lamenting about the arrangement being temporary quickly became tedious.

This is filled with poignant moments incorporating all the bittersweet gestures that Hailey and Cole initiate to keep Lindsay and Darren's memories alive for their girls.

A town where four childhood friends take the opportunity to renew friendships.

Cole is a professional hockey player who is single and commitment free and plans to stay that way until fate intervenes. When his best friend passes away, he finds himself co-guardian of his three year old daughter Evie and his six year old daughter Paisley. Now he must try to help these adorable girls adjust to life without their parents with the help of Hailey who because of their past wants nothing to do with him.

Hailey has a lot of responsibilities, but she will honor her best friend’s last wish and be there for her daughters even if it means living with Cole. They have a past she would like to forget but she is determined to give Evie and Paisley the love and support they need as she also realizes that she never really knew Cole at all.

This is a heartwarming story about love and family. Cole and Hailey must heal from both their pasts together and apart and realize that it doesn’t have to define their future.

This was a very heart warming and devastating, emotional and beautiful story. As you can tell it has all the feels.

Cole and Hailey have a horrible past from 10 yrs ago. They never expected to see each other again.

But tragedy has them meeting again by chance. Both of their old best friends left their beautiful 2 daughters in Cole's and Hailey's care.
Both not confident that they're good enough to raise these girls..

Oh it was wonderful to see the characters grow and work through their shortfalls and start to love each other.
Will they able to overcome their past? Can they become the beautiful family that's awaiting for them?
Give it a read and find out you will not be disappointed.

Honestly, Erika Kelly has smashed it with this book. You will get lost in it as soon as you start reading from page 1.

The girls stole my heart.

Cole is in the NHL, captain of his team, and not on the ice due to a concussion from a roller skating mishap. When he gets word from a friend’s attorney, he is named a guardian for his girls.

Hailey is a designer in New York, and she gets the same information. Hailey and Cole have a history and do not exactly like each other. But for the sake of their friends and to keep these girls together, together they will figure out a solution. The two begin to love the girls as they work to find family. Can they admit to the feelings developing? I recommend this incredible story, lots of feels in this journey.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

What happens when you leave your children to your best friends but they don’t really like each other? Hailey is a fashion designer in New York and has her life figured. In a couple years she will be selling her own designs. Coke is a professional hockey player who likes to party and do what he can to make people happy. They both receive a letter saying they are the guardians of their friends little girls. They start to fall for the girls but know they can’t be their forever family. Can they find a mutual understanding and end up being what the girls need? This is a great book!

Paisley and Everly are like the highlight of this book, truly. I don't think I would get bored with just how adorable these two are. But of course, Hailey and Cole are also amazing people. I still can't believe just how amazing they are towards Paisley and Everly and that they accepted they are their guardians. And I loved that it's not overly heavy. It's actually pretty light and sweet.

This put me through the wringer emotionally while still keeping the steam and banter witty and wonderful. I loved Cole and Hailey together, although Paisley and Everly were the ones who stole my heart the most. A super fun, emotional, steamy read with wonderful characters. *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was good. I didn't like that there was so much emphasis on Cole & Hailey finding the girls their "forever home". I would have rated it higher if it wasn't for that. Lyndsay & Darrent chose them to raise their daughters, not for them to look for someone else to raise them.

The girls were adorable.

I find it strange to read sentences that refer to the narrator in third person. And once again, two lead characters, but only one narrator, one perspective. I always wish for two. Second, the picture on the cover does not match the character descriptions. The girls are three years apart and look the same page here and Cole does not match his physical description (and I hate the hair).

Some questions, for example, what mistake did Hailey make for Lindsay's parents to kick her out of their home, are answered too late (and was not justified). I also do not see how attending a party ruins one's entire year; nor 10 years later do I understand how one person is so attracted to another who still shows them disrespect for no reason. And I'm over Cole's self-deprecation. And Trevor, dressing and acting as his on camera alias 24/7 is absurd.

Part of me believes the idea of a new family formed from ashes and love, while the other part does not understand the attraction between the two lead characters. Their intimacy does not align with the previous pages of the author doing a poor job trying to explain why they did not get along in high school.

(1) Two people expressing concern of things changing between them "once we have sex" does not make sense when they have already had it (page 190 & 219)
(2) One person says three words. Another responds (page 318). "You don't have to say..." (page 326). Again, too late, already said.

What a trip this book was. True love came out of the worst tragedy. Cole and Hailey inherit co-guardianship of two precious girls, six and three, when their high school best friends are tragically killed in a car accident.
Bpth of them are damaged from childhood. Cole’s father loved him, but his acting career kept him busy and away from Cole, months on end.
Hailey’s mother loved her but she was a free spirit to the max, never knowing where her next job, next resting place, or even next meal was coming from.
Cole had all the material things but only wanted a real family. Hailey had no material things and not enough to eat. All she wanted was the stability of family. Watching them navigate their way with the girls and each other, watching them love and grow into a family, was beautiful.

Love Me Like You Do is the 10th installment in Erika Kelly's Calamity Falls series. All books are standalone and a joy to read!

Cole and Hailey have known each other since high school, but Cole blew it a decade ago. They reunite when their best friends are the victims of a car accident and name Cole and Hailey as guardians of their two young girls. They both feel the inferno that is burning between them, but how are they going to navigate being new parents and changing their lives entirely to be the best parents to their new daughters?

Cole and Hailey's story teaches us about trust in others and most importantly, trust in yourself. Erika Kelly writes another awesome story in the Calamity Falls series! It's a 5-star must read!

This is book #10 in the Calamity Falls series and #2 in the Renegades series. I have read book #12 and #9 so far besides this one. I got this in the Kindle Unlimited program and signed out Book #11 to read later this month once I am between ARCs.

Swoon worthy!!! So many emotions. The girls have been through so much. Hailey and Cole have the world’s turn upside down. Now they are guardians for their friend’s children after they suddenly passed away. Each of them have childhood trauma to work through. Can they find their way through it to their forever family?

Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Can't understand the hype of this book. In theory it supposed to be my favorite book, but execution is lacking. The story is dragging, too much indecisiveness between Cole and Hailey (which named Jubilee in the blurb but okayyy). The push and pull, can't decide they what they want. Hailey, despite being named Godmother, reluctant to adopt the kids. I mean.. Then why accept for the first place?

At least Hailey throw everything and directly go to Calamity for the kids, but Cole? Throwing money at the problem was his first thought. Yes, after a while there's a layer inside Cole, but at that point I don't care anymore. Like I said, too much inner turmoils that written in paragraph, then written again as a dialogue. Nope, I'm not impressed.

Finding a Forever Family ❤️👘🏒💙

I liked how this was a second chance romance for Cole and Hailey, but it was just part of the story.

This book was good at showing how a family is not just blood. It is being there for each other, committing to one another and accepting people for who they are. It is letting go of past hurts and becoming the best person you can be.

Hailey, Cole and the two little girls entrusted to them become a beautiful family. It was heartwarming to watch them bloom into a family. They have the best chance at being their forevers.

This story kept me reading as I got invested in Cole and Hailey story. Having all that money could buy growing up didn't make Cole happy. He loss his Mom young so with a dad that was never home he was raises by nannies. So he never thought when he met Hailey he would want more so when he and Hailey become co- guardians to their childhood best friends kids this brings them back together. This story tugs at your heartstrings for the 2 little girls and even Hailey and Cole as they learn to become a Family . Such a great story.

It was a DNF for me. TBH I was bored, and I was kind of shocked that neither one of them wanted to take the girls at first. Like they kept thinking that they didn’t want them in the system but that they couldn’t keep them. And actively trying to find someone else to take them. Idk it just kind of bothered me 🤷🏾‍♀️

This reminded me of the Katherine Heigl/Josh Duhamel movie of the same situation - friends leave their orphaned children to a pair of friends who aren’t a couple. This was very sweet. I liked how both Hailey and Cole unpacked the hangups left behind by their less than stellar childhoods.

I know I finished it quickly, so it must have been a sweet escape. But I remember almost nothing about it. I like any time a book has grief in it if grief is done well. I can't remember if it was done well here or not.

Loving family bonds

A really great story, Cold and Hailey both had issues from his they were raised as children. Cole left with nannies to raise him where he missed family connection and felt abandoned in many ways tho he loved his dad he simply wasn't there for him, and Hailey grew up with a mum whom travelled from job to job couch surged and lacked money for food so Hailey needed job security as an adult for fear of not having a home or food. Both were wonderful natured adults and came together after being left two little girls when their parents died suddenly. Both had reserved in being enough for the girls but soon grew to score them and become a family, a very touching story and the girls were sweetheart 's.
I loved that characters from book one made an appearance, I would have liked more interaction between them though as I felt it lacked the connection book one had.
Such a shame it had quite a few errors / contradictions throughout.
I would overlook those as I did enjoy and hope they were picked up and corrected.

Amazon / Apple / Nook / Kobo / Google

Cole's charming and affable off the ice, and a force on the ice. He doesn't do commitment, other than to hockey, because well, because of a lot of things, mainly his childhood and a defining event during his teens. Then he gets the notification that he's been named guardian of an old friend's daughters. No way can he possibly be a parent. No way. But his co-guardian? She's the woman he's never gotten over, the one he's always wanted a redo with. Maybe Hailey is willing to at least give him her forgiveness? Or maybe even more...

Hailey's never been able to count on anyone in her life. Her mother moved them from friend's home to another, always in search of her next gig. So Hailey craves stability and routine. Now she's been tasked with guardianship of her oldest friend's daughters. She can't let them go into the system, so she'll do everything she can to keep them out of it. But she can't possibly count on the man who ruined her last year of high school, can she? She just may be able to, though, because as they spend more time together she starts seeing the real Cole. The real Cole may be a large hockey player but on the inside he's an ooey gooey teddy bear who seems to love their new daughters as much as she. Can they truly have it all? A family together and his hockey career and her fashion design career? Or does something have to give?

I love it when big jocks are actually big softies on the inside, just waiting for love to come along and bring them to their knees. That's exactly what happened in Love Me Like You Do. Cole is so damaged, so filled with guilt that he had been unable to get beyond what happened in his growing up years, that he was closed off to emotion. But then Hailey came along and offered love and her big heart, and she, Evvie and Paisley showed him what family could really be. I adored this made family. Calamity Falls is a place I want to read more about now.
