Bodyguard romance but she didn't know he was her bodyguard??? I love that dynamic and I had so much fun with this book. The heroine is a famous singer who is attending college. It came out who she was and she's gotten some threats, so her parents secretly hire the hero to watch her. She sees him around and starts liking him, so you know it's not going to go well when she finds out who he is. I really loved the hero and how he was helping take care of his brothers since his parents' passed. He had left for a professional football career and is back to help take care of then. I really liked how he had to watch over the heroine and how she slowly broke down and trusted him. I do think they got together a little too early, but the suspense plot at the end was fun and I really loved all of his brothers. Now I can't wait to go back and read the rest of the wallflower books!

I always have the best time reading Rebecca Jenshak books, and Tempting The Player was definitely no exception. I've read this fourth, and last installment, in the Campus Wallflowers series all at once. It's enjoyable, fresh and captivating.

Jane revelead her past as a young star attracting a lot of attention among her fellow college students. When she receives some threats and she can't pretend anymore that nothing has changed, she allows her parents to hire a bodyguard. Hendrick is a bodyguard, while he wait his next chance to play in the NFL, he is the right guy for this job because he isn't a lot older than a student and his brothers live near the campus. So it starts the attraction at first sight between them and the internal war to resist it.

I liked the kind of forbidden love between the bodyguard and his protected. Hendrick tried to not fall for Jane, but she is irresistible, funny and cheerful, the very opposite that attracts the broody, sullen and troubled hero.

These two are so cute together, they did a lot of good to one another. Jane helped Hendrick to understand better the family's dynamics, to not feel like an outsider in his own home. Hendrick made Jane feel safe again, in order to go back to blithely live the college experience.

There is less sports and more suspense into this book than the previous ones, but there is the same amount of romance, I suggest to check it out.

Staring at him should be a sport. I’d place first every single time.

I ADORED this last (yes, I’m crying) book in the Campus Wallflower series. Jane has been a bit of a mystery in most of the books, but in book 3 (Scoring the Player) she reveals that she was actually teen tv/music star, Ivy Greene, the likes of Hannah Montana. That leads to some unwanted extra attention on and off campus that she wasn’t fully anticipating. Cue her parents being a bit extra protective and pressuring her to hire security to keep her safe on her college campus, which she declines. Besides, she’s too busy crushing on the hot guy who just keeps popping up all over the place and just so happens to be there whenever she needs help. Hmm. Yeah, this is a hidden identity/falling for my bodyguard romance and I GOBBLED it up.

Jane and Hendrick have such a good tension at first before everything that we as readers know from the blurb comes to light. This man is obviously paid to protect her, but he can’t help the draw he has to her and the natural urge that builds to actually protect her and get to know her outside of the paycheck. I also loved that in this one Jane is obviously the one who needs physical protecting, but she’s protective of her man as well in so many ways. Plus, she spoils him and I kind of love it. Gifting is one of her love languages.

While I loved these two and the relationship/protective dynamic between them, I also of course love the found family of the campus Wallflower friend group and the introduction of Hendrick’s family. I swear I always think that I can’t love a cast of characters more than the last, but Jenshak always makes me fall for every single person she introduces. I’ve already prepared a list of reasons why each character should get a story just in case she ever asks 😅

All in all I loved this story. If you enjoy bodyguard romance, with found family, actual healing your family dynamics, a bit of suspense plots then you will love Tempting the Player. As per usual I highly recommend reading the entire series, but you can read this as a standalone, you will get caught up with most of the background as you read. But like I said, amazing series and recommend the entire thing!

(audiobook+ebook) I found my least favorite book by the author. Not that it wasn’t good–I enjoyed it quite a bit by the end of it. But it took me a long time to get attached to the characters, especially Hendrick, and their relationship.

I don’t know why I couldn’t get into the love story. It just looked like a lot of lust and little love, until very late in the book. And I get it, a little fling is nice too. But it felt wrong here: Jane was vulnerable; the reasons why Hendrick didn’t want to get involved were valid, yet he did it anyway; Jane was a little too aggressive in her seduction for my taste. It just felt like two people making terrible decisions.

As for the characters, I mostly had problems with Hendrick. He didn’t sound older than Jane at all, when they had very different life experiences. Yes, Jane could have been mature for her age, since she was a teenage star once, but she didn’t sound like it either. His past and how it influenced his life choices didn’t make a lot of sense to me. I was really confused about him.

I loved the Holland family dynamics though. Maybe the author was too interested in them too, and that’s why the romance felt forced. But the Holland brothers were a lot of fun, by themselves or between them.

The little suspense was okay. The author did a good job with the tension those messages created, and how Jane reacted to it. I had guess who the culprit was quite early in the story, but it didn’t ruin the mystery.

The narration was okay, especially the female narrator. I didn’t quite get the right energy for Hendrick from the male narrator though. I think it didn’t help me with understanding the character. So not exactly the best audiobook coming from the author, just okay.

Quickie

Jane Greenfield attends Valley U in Arizona where she lives off campus with three roommates who have become like sisters. Over the last couple years she's made great friends and has enjoyed being a regular college student and living a normal life. As a former child star, she needed a fresh start away from the public eye. She's loved getting to have some of the experiences she missed out on, and cherishes her new freedom. Then she's suddenly not so anonymous anymore and has to come out of hiding when her secret is revealed to the paparazzi. Everyone wants to know her and her calm existence evaporates as her world becomes overwhelming. Then she gets some much needed excitement when she notices a devastatingly beautiful guy running past her house every day. Just one look at him leaves her feeling breathless. She assumes he's another college student, but when he keeps showing up everywhere and even comes to her rescue a few times, she develops a massice crush on her new mystery man. He's kind, makes her feel safe and she finds him fascinating. She feels a connection she can't explain, and desperately wants a chance to get to know him better, but things turn complicated when she realizes the guy she's pursuing was hired to be her undercover bodyguard.

Tempting the Player by Rebecca Jenshak is the fourth book in the Campus Wallflowers series. It's a forced proximity, college, sports, bodyguard, grumpy/sunshine romance about family, friendhship, and forbidden love. Opposites attract when an ex-pro athlete and a Hollywood star meet. We get plenty of chemistry, drama, angst, swoon and a story with all the feels. I have loved this series so much, and Jane's book was everything I wanted and more! <333

Tempting the Player is part of Rebecca Jenshak’s Campus Wallflowers series and this has been a fun series to listen to the audiobooks for. This is the newest release in the series, and while not my fav (that is still Scoring the Player), this was a solid addition to the series. This whole series has been a college, sports romance series following a friend group. While the hero in this one is/was a football player, it’s barely-there with being a sports romance and instead a bodyguard romance!

Jane is a former child star who just wants to feel normal and enjoy her college life. She’s been featured in the rest of the series with her girl friend group (the other heroines of the series). She notices Hendrick, a former football player who keeps popping up in the same places as her. She starts to crush on him and thinks he’s into her as well since he’s around and watching her often…but then realizes he’s her hired bodyguard (that she didn’t know about). After some threats to her safety, her parents really wanted Jane to have a bodyguard and took it upon themselves to hire Hendrick. So we get the protectiveness from him and now we get the added tension of being her bodyguard too and them not wanting to cross that boundary at first, but both being super into one another.

We do get to see Hendrick try not to fall for Jane, but of course fail at that. He was a college football player and kind of biding his time while waiting to hear from the NFL, which is how he got into bodyguard-ing. He also spends a lot of time with his brothers who live nearby campus too. This one like I mentioned in less sports romance, but does have some suspense to it a bit.

Not even my curiosity could make me finish this

Another day, another author painfully oblivious to the monster of a FMC they’ve created.

I looked forward to this book. I enjoyed the at least one of the previous books in the series. But holy moly I hate Jane. She is so entitled and selfish that I was certain for a while that it was purposely done by the author to allow for character growth. Honestly, I DNF’d it just before 50% because it just kept getting worse with no sign of slowing down and the author appears to be oblivious of just how horrible their FMC is.

At first I was like, heck yeah, an FMC who’s confident and goes after what she wants, but it soon becomes pushy and almost verges on harassment after she knows he’s her employee.

She had to repeatedly push him to hang out with her, before he caved and showed up to her party. They had a friendly chat, flirted a little and the she finds out he was hired by her parents to be her body guard.

She’s so enraged by this and acts as though he lied to her and misled her into believing he liked her, as though she didn’t have to practically beat him over the head to get him to even come to her party. They hung out literally once for any real amount of time.

She brought everything on herself and she literally fired him. How callous do you have to be to prioritize your embarrassment over the livelihood of another person? It’s not like she was just refusing to have a body guard, either, because she gets a different one.

She never gets called out on any of her atrocious, petulant, entitled behaviour. This dude just comes running back. For what? If someone fired me for the same reasons this FMC did, I wouldn’t speak to them again. I don’t care how hot the person is.

Dude continues to try to set boundaries and she just pushes them and throws tantrums when she doesn’t get her way, even when it seems he’s literally her employee! Holy harassment, Batman.

If the author could have had literally ANY of the characters hold the FMC responsible, if not the MMC, then I could have finished this book. I hope I’m wrong in assuming that she’s never called out for her behaviour. Sincerely doubt it though.

The only thing that even got me to the 50% mark was the “mystery” of who was doing the things. Mysteries, even bad ones, have gotten me to finish a lot of god awful books, but not even that could bring me to continue reading about this terrible character.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Trope: deception, taboo
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥

The Campus Wallflowers series has been a fantastic series and Rebecca definitely didn't let us down with this last installment. This time it's Jane's turn and we have a super cute grumpy/sunshine bodyguard romance that definitely brings the feels. The taboo relationship definitely get's a bit of a kick since Jane doesn't know Hendrick is her bodyguard at first. This is a super fast paced story with a bit of suspense that will definitely keep you hooked to the end. I love it when the female protagonist has a great girl gang to have her back and I loved seeing all of them together. Hendrick was super swoony and moody especially given the taboo nature of their relationship. Just an all around great read!

The Campus Wallflowers series has amazing college sport romances with found family and lovely characters.

I would highly recommend it if you love this genre. 🫶🏻

Tempting The Player follows Jane, she’s a child actress and singer once known as Ivy Greene.

She applied to Valley U, to study like an ordinary person but Jane’s parents were really scared for her safety. After a while, they found a solution for this problem.

Jane has a few meet cutes with a grumpy guy around campus named Hendrick that came in her life for a reason but has a secret assignment that she doesn’t know about...

There are TW for this book (stalking, harassement, death of a parent,…)

Thank you to Valentine PR, Rebecca Jenshak and the publisher for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.

This series is one of my fave new adult romances! Rebecca Jenshak keeps it fresh with changes the hero’s sport, thus giving us a variety of characters and storylines but keeping us grounded with the girl group of friends.

I also loved how protective the hero was, and his brothers…I need more of them.

If you love new adult, this is a must read!!

3.5 ⭐

MCs:
- Hendrick, 25, former NFL player
- Jane, 20/21, former child actress

Book Info:
- No cheating, third act breakup
- OMD
- Bodyguard romance
- Forced proximity
- Blackmail
- Loss of love one (off page)
- Mention of stalking
- Non-virgin MCs
- HFN

I'm torn between 3 or 4 ⭐ so I'm going to settle at 3.5 😅

Anyway, Hendrick was hired by Jane's parents when she started to receive threatening letters and emails. His role was supposed to be a secret but it was revealed immediately around 17% I think. Jane fired him but of course readers know he will be hired again it's only a matter of when.

For the first 60% of the book, Jane did all the chasing. She's straightforward, honest, and really a go getter. Usually, I'll be annoyed by this behavior but for some reason she didn't come off as pathetic and clingy, maybe it's the writing style or characterization??? Idk.

Hendrick did the pushing because he doesn't want to cross that line with Jane. But he's also deeply attracted to her and his fight lasted up to 75% of the book. He eventually gave in and took his claim of Jane.

There's an OMD in the story. Up to 60% of the book Jane is attracted to Hendrick but still wants to hookup with the OM. She never sleeps with this guy, but she has a crush on him and now that he's finally paying her some attention, she wants to take it. Her reason was she only wants to feel wanted, and Hendrick is determined to stick being her bodyguard. Since she couldn't have him, she would settle with this OM instead (thank God, nothing happened between them). Tbf, until this point nothing sexual happened between Jane and Hendrick, well they kissed but he put a stop before they escalated and told her it's never going to happen again. So up to this part of the story they're only friendly with each other.

If the roles were reversed and the MMC is still looking to hookup with someone aside from the FMC, I'm sure readers would be pissed, and this scenario isn't any different. It still annoyed the shit out of me that Jane is still willing to be with the OM despite the fact that she's attracted to Hendrick. It just doesn't make sense to me, why she would still even consider the OM at all???🤦‍♀️

Moving on, with all the blackmailing and threats sent to Jane, Hendrick is always around and protecting her from any potential harm. When they finally decided to be together, he was sweet and swoony most especially when he acted like more of a caveman, wanting to ensure her safety all the time. He really is thorough when it comes to her wellbeing and it's hot and adorable. I think it helps that Jane listens to him all the time and never questions his decision. He's not an asshole so it's not really difficult to follow him. Anyway, they're really cute together and I like them as a couple.

When they found the person responsible for the blackmail, everything settled down and they started to do things more comfortably. Both MCs figured out what they're going to do in their lives and they 100% support each other. I honestly enjoyed it (despite the omd) and the appearance of couples from the prior books of this series. Still worth reading, imo.

Jane is a former child star who is trying to live a “normal” college life. Her story is the last in the author’s 𝙲𝚊𝚖𝚙𝚞𝚜 𝚆𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚏𝚕𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚛𝚜 𝚜𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚜, I adore this book and series so much!
Jane and Hendrick have sparks every time they meet, he always seems to be around to “save” her.
She finds out her parents hired him to be her bodyguard secretly and she’s not happy about this at all.
Hendrick is an NFL player who after injury and an uncertain football future has taken on bodyguard jobs. Jane happens to live close to his younger brothers (who he helped raise) so he’s happy to take the job and be around for them.
The banter and chemistry between the two characters is adorable and still very steamy. Jane is such a cool chick, she’s down to earth and straight forward. Hendrick is a smart, sexy guy who is a bit of a closed off grump. He has some big life decisions ahead and the attraction to Jane isn’t something he feels he can afford in order to keep her safe.
This has the sexual tension of “will they or won’t they?” It has a bit of a forbidden vibe as well. Their chemistry is smoking hot and the way they get to know each other is one of my favorite parts of the story which is a bit of forced proximity that happens to Jane with Hendrick and his brothers. It is such a funny, entertaining and heartwarming part of their story. It made me giddy and delighted.
There are college parties, sports games and girls nights in with the other “wallflowers”. I love the bond the ladies have so much.
There’s a bit of suspense and mystery, Jane has some threats and a possible stalker situation happening. It adds a perfect amount of drama.
I adore these characters and their journey together to love. It’s such an endearing, entertaining story and series.
Even as it’s bittersweet that the series is over, this book was a fantastic one to end on.

Tempting the Player is a college romance featuring Jane, a former child star (think Hannah Montana), and Hendrick, a former pro football player turned bodyguard.

Jane wants to attend college where she can be just another student, but her parents are uncomfortable with her being without protection, so they secretly hire Hendrick as her bodyguard. Despite the secrecy, Jane and Hendrick have undeniable chemistry, even after she discovers her parents’ plan.

Meanwhile, the tension rises as someone on campus seems to want Jane gone, making Hendrick’s presence all the more crucial.

This final installment of the Wallflower series delivers an enjoyable college romance with a dash of mystery to keep things interesting.

i kind of knew i wasn't gonna like this book but i read it anyway. i didn't like Jane going in and she just got even worse while reading. i did not understand at all why she outed herself as being "famous" and then was like why did i do that? ur dumb that's why. like she wanted to have a "normal" college experience and then goes and "outs" herself knowing it will lead to a not "normal" college experience. make it make sense.

i also didn't like all the stuff with Hendrick's brothers and Jane. I just feel like it wasn't necessary. and is really never necessary in books when all the brothers like the same girl. just no. and when they all or one of them like hit on or have nicknames for the girl the MMC brother likes/is with. i hate it.

I liked Hendrick but the storyline with his football career just seemed kinda dumb and especially since he didn't go to that tryout for a second chance all because miss damsel in distress was drugged days ago. everyone was acting like she just got done with cancer treatments. like you're doin' way too much people.

is it bad that i liked the "bad" guy for trying to get Jane out of the way for his GF to have her spotlight. and that was like the whole plot and it was so juvenile.

“I want to kiss you again more than I want my next breath.”

-grumpy X sunshine
-bodyguard
-close proximity
-she’s a child star
-college setting

Very typical of me to read a series completely out of order but since this was a stand-alone it was fine! What is NOT fine is how I had put off this adorable, feel good, spicy college romance series for so long!! This series has the same vibe as Off Campus/Briar U in my opinion.

Henderick is SO protective over Jane. I loved how he was so grumpy but when it came to her he had such a soft spot. I really liked the Holland brother dynamics too. The banter between all of them was just so so fun. This book had a suspense sub plot as well which kept me turning the pages quickly.

To summarize: I ate this up!! Like truly had an amazing time and it was exactly the kind of book I needed to read on a day where I was feeling less than amazing.

I cannot wait to go back and read all of the Campus Wallflower books (they are currently sitting in my Amazon cart).

Thank you to Valentine PR for the advanced copy!

Dear Rebecca Jenshak,

If you were to venture into small town romance you would absolutely kick ass in that trope. Also, if I don’t get a series about Hendricks four brothers I will riot.

This gave vibes of the movie First Daughter with Katie Holmes and I loved every minute of it.

Imagine you see a cute guy always running past your college house at lunch time. He’s hot and you don’t know if he goes to your college but it’s worth getting to know him. You start talking to him and realize you know his brothers so y’all hangout and you start getting feelings for him. WELL, turns out he’s actually your bodyguard that your parents hired to watch you. Awkward right? Especially since y’all kissed 🤭.

I really enjoyed this. Hendricks (don’t love that name tho lmao), and Jane were so perfect for each other. This was so swoony and spicy but also so cute. I loved Hendricks brothers and need books for all of them. I also loved seeing all the girls and couples from the previous books!

I wished we got an epilogue years later instead of months but overall, LOVED this! Probably my fav in the series!

Also no third act breakup!!
