I liked:

-Violet’s love for Austen. We must be twins because I’ve always felt like an “Austen phony” too - I love all the adaptations but not the real books! 🤣
-That they both have ambitions and other things going on besides romance
-The good friendships

I didn’t like:
-That you think he cheated the whole time. I had a feeling he didn’t but then you find out in the last like two minutes and we don’t even see Violet ever find out?! It’s such a huge deal I think we needed more. I know the point is that she forgives him either way but we could have at least seen her find out he didn’t!!
-That *of course* the guy is always in love with the girl the whollleee time but sleeps around like crazy and *of course* the girl doesn’t date at all.
-I don’t like that she walks in on him hooking up with a girl. When a story starts, I just want my MCs focused on each other and everything else in the past. They’re not together, sure, but literally minutes later he cares for her when she’s sick. And you’re supposed to start liking him then but I kept thinking he’d be having sex with another girl right now if she didn’t walk in. To me, that part wasn’t needed. Why couldn’t she have just walked into his room?

I don’t know. I felt super conflicted because cheating is a hard no for me, and Violet forgives him thinking he did. He does some nice things but I wanted more.

!!THIS REVIEW WILL HAVE SPOILERS!!

I'm so disappointed in this author. I loved every one of her other books. She had good writing and pacing. And most important, no excessive ow drama or cheating.
Which this book had.

Plot
Gavin and Violet were dating, but when she found him in bed with her roommate, she broke it off. A year later, on a camping trip Violet and her friends go on, Gavin shows up unknown to her. So on this camping trip they are forced to share a tent and be around each other.

What I think.
Fuck this book. And fuck Gavin. I hate him with a passion. OFC he gets away with cheating (it technically isn't, but Violet doesn't know that) then he sleeps around and fucks anything that moves for a year. While Violet doesn't even hook up with someone else. Why The Fuck do authors write these types of men?

I thought if there was one author I could trust on no ow drama or cheating tropes or men who respect women, its Rebecca Jenshak. But no, apparently not. Because men are allowed to fuck everything and anything while a woman must stay celibate little doormats, or else they're a whore.

Also why the fuck was Gavin hateful towards Violet. Are you fucking serious. He acts like a little child when his favorite toy is smashed to pieces. Instead he fucks her over majorly, starts fucking around like its his job, and he's getting payed. And shes there, in pain because Gavin is a major bitch, and doesn't ever talk to her or apologize.

Also, if he actually loved her like he says he does. That "shes special", why sleep around and not try to win her over.

Fuck this book, and books like this. If there's a book about a player, apparently cheating is a way to a woman heart. Dont you just love when someone you like just fucks other people too. SOOOO romantic, my ass.

Its just so dissopointing. I loved the first book in this series so much. The mmc there, didnt hook up with other girls after getting to know the fmc, and he stayed faithful. He was funny, cute, possessive, and in love. I felt like he actually cared.

Obviously, no hate towards the author or people who like this book. One of my triggers is stupid men like Gavin who treat their support soulmate like shit. And sleeps around on them. As you have probably noticed, I am beyond pissed off right now. in my defence, I am writing this review as I'm crying and I might have some slight anger issues.

On a serious note. I have been treated like shit from men like Gavin. Its not nice. It makes you feel worthless and like your never gonna be enough or that you're beautiful. And those feelings come forth again with books like this. It might have been my fault for not checking up on if he was a manwhore or not. But yeah, this book made me remember the feeling of never being enough.
Peace!

I just adore this series! The sweet chemistry, the endearing characters, all the charm and sincerity paired with humor and the complexity of growing up. I can’t get enough of the Wallflower crew- and I’m so happy we get to see Violet find her HEA and Gavin redeem himself so perfectly.

After we got a glimpse at the complicated past between Gavin and Violet and the vitriolic state of their relationship, I knew this story would have a bit more angst, a lot of push and pull, and ample drama. I was so curious to get underneath what really happened between them- and if Rebecca could actually redeem Gavin, even though I logically knew there had to be more to the story. And even more so, could VIOLET forgive Gavin? She showed no signs of wanting to understand, even caring to understand, what exactly happened that led to the heartbreak she experienced. But leave it to Rebecca to force Violet’s hands- a little bit of forced proximity, a persistent hero, and sweet moments of vulnerability created the just right moments needed to force these two to come to terms with their past- and their unresolved feelings.

Violet was every bit as surprising as I expected her to be! I did not expect her story to go where it did, but I loved that the emotional content and character journeys weren't only centered in their distrust/past- and that we didn't spend a ton of time seeing that past situation or have a ton of OW drama, which was a real fear for me. Rebecca recenters this story mostly in their present, with a surprising but ultra-relatable arc around the weight of family and expectations, tensions around figuring out your future when you’re a newly formed adult, and all the insecurities that come with it.

While Violet was everything I knew she would be, I also loved getting into her heart- seeing she was more than just her fixed judgements and anti-sports frustrations. Understanding just how badly she was hurt.I loved her sass and her vulnerability. I’m glad we got more than the bitter/angry tidbits we saw of her in book one, we got the full beauty and range of her. And Gavin totally surprised me, I didn't expect to so easily like him, especially given what I suspected happened in the past based on what we’d seen through Violet’s eyes, but he’s just so darn charming. And the hero taking care of a sick heroine is literally my achilles tendon- like OMG. I loved all Jane Austen flirting- I can't even with how cute and magical their chemistry is.I loved all the sweet little thoughtful things he does throughout the story to capture Violet’s heart again- he’s so darn swoony. Their chemistry is really cute, and I love how they fit each other. She centers him, and he gets her to open his heart- she gives him a genuine second chance.

And my Wallflowers- gah I just love this girl gang so much. And we get some awesome Daisy-Jordan cuteness that makes my heart so happy. All in all a super amazing visit to this amazing cast of friends. I can't get enough of them!

screaming!!😭 this book was so freaking CUTE! i love gavin and violet so freaking much. they are perfection! gavin is such a simp for violet. i wanted to cry at the cuteness overload between these two. the way these two went from hate to love and all the cuteness in between was everything. second chance, dislike to lovers, AND next door neighbors? literally the best tropes all in one book. gavin and violet are too sweet and i miss them already <3. they are my top campus wallflowers couple at the moment 🥰.

and thank you valentine pr and rebecca jenshak for the arc 🥰

Violet Johnson is a college student that lives in an off campus house with her three best friends. She’s a fashion design major at Valley University who loves Jane Austen and making dresses. She hasn’t dated much since the last guy she fell for broke her heart. Things could get complicated since her ex is also her neighbor, but she does her best to avoid him. Gavin Leonard is Valley U’s basketball captain, and lives next door with all the other gorgeous, popular star athletes in the top party house on campus. They have each learned to stay on their side of the fence. Then she agrees to a fun weekend mountain getaway with her cousin and some friends. Suddenly things go terribly wrong and she finds herself stuck on a couple’s camping trip with Gavin. They are the only two single, and there’s only one tent left. They share the same friend group, but he wasn’t supposed to go on the trip. Since they ended things between them a year ago, he’s everywhere she turns. She can’t seem to escape him, and no matter how hard she tries to be immune, she’s still attracted to him. He makes her feel too much, when all she wants to do is be angry with him. Will she be able to stay away from him for the next forty eight hours, or will he charm her into another chance?

Hating the Player by Rebecca Jenshak is the second book in the Campus Wallflowers series. It’s a slow burn, neighbors, opposites attract, enemies to lovers, college, sports romance full of humor, fabulous banter, chemistry, and delicious tension. It’s about trust, friendship, forgiveness, undeniable connections and second chances. I really loved this couple and this story! I can’t wait for the next book in the series! I need more!!! <333

an easy and quick college sports romance read, the blurb is misleading because the camping trip is over within the first 12%, felt so obvious it was written for tiktok (if you get me) and the fmc wasnt my fave, gavin however ???? what a man i love him

i also really wanted to see more of them when they we’re together in the past, it was kinda just mentioned that they had a thing in the past but i wanted to see it to really feel the second chance aspect

Such a cute book! This is a college basketball romance, second chance, and they’re neighbors. Gavin is dying for another chance with Violet, and while she treats him like the enemy, he has it soo bad for her. Gavin is totally head over heels and will do anything to make her see he’s worthy. Low drama, it’s the perfect fun and easy read!

ALSO he buys her a copy of her favorite book even though she already has 4 other copies. We love a man who recognizes that book buying is it’s own hobby.

Violet and Gavin hate each other, but is it true?
They went out for a while until Gavin cheated on her and he lost her. Now Violet tries to avoid him but it's really difficult when he is her neighbour.

Violet and Gavin story was so perfect and entertaining, once I've started to read it I couldn't stop. I loved them and I appreciated the way they slowly rekindle their friendship.
It's so funny to see Violet, our strong and stubborn heroine, accepting that Gavin is not mean and that she still loves him. Gavin wounded Violet in the past making some bad decision, but now he makes everything he can to redeem himself and to gain her trust again, and you cannot not to root for him.

Rebecca Jenshak wrote a beautiful and refreshing story, she made me swooning and cheering for these characters.

I highly recommend to get this book, I'm going to reread it soon.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: second chance, enemies to lovers
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Super cute and angsty read! Absolutely love second chance stories and Violet and Gavin really delivered. Hating the Player has a wonderful storyline with characters that made true emotional and relationship growth. I loved that Violet really made Gavin work for it, not willing to just hand over absolution when he decided he wanted to seriously try again. I'm really enjoying this series and the gal pal wallflowers group. I can't wait to see what's next!

"There's no one I'd rather fight with than you, Vi."

It was a well executed book and Violet & Gavin were the sweetest pair! Though, it was just another enjoyable sports romance to me. Violet & Gavin couldn't be anymore opposite. While she was a good girl, focused on her interest in designing, he was the son of a popular NBA player who was constantly under the pressure of being compared to his father. Their worlds were entirely different but since they were neighbours and their friends were dating each other (Daisy & Jordan), they always ended up hanging out with their common friend group. However, a huge mistake breaks them apart and Gavin breaks Violet's heart along the process. When they end up having to share a tent during one of their trips with their friends, they just click and find out that they were never over their feelings. Overall, I enjoyed reading this second chance romance. It was quick, lighthearted and well written. It had a bit of angst, also the perfect balance between spice and some cute moments. It was my first by the author and I'm definitely looking forward to read more from Rebecca Jenshak!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review

Took me long enough, to be honest.

I really dislike second-chance romances and when I got interested in Violet's story, it was because of the fact that she hated Gavin. But it turns out she didn't really hate him, she was just mad at him for having "cheated" on her. Which is just... a really bad premise for a book.

Cliché and predictable. Though this is revealed at the very end. So I skipped basically half the book to spoil myself on this and be done. Really, who would be into this shit?? Not worth it.

I want to kick myself for going into this series knowing it's an author I already read books of before and disliked them, so I guess I should just listen to my judgy inner voice next time showing me the red flags.

This was sooooooo good!! It everything in it and more!! Amazing fluff, a bit of spice and unexpectedly even some angst that had my heart ACHING!!! It was just incredible from the main characters up to their love story!

Starting of with Gavin. I’m so madly in love with Gavin, it’s insane!! He’s literally so perfect and incredible!!! He was so sweet and he’s literally so down bad for Violet… ugh I need me a man like him! He absolutely carried this book!!

He is literally so obsessed and in love with Violet!! The way he pretty much constantly thought about her, took care of her when she needed him (even if she didn’t want to at first), reassured her and just loved her so deeply had my heart flipping inside my chest!! He was just so amazing!

Violet is also such a baddie!! I love how witty she is and how she doesn’t hold back! The way she always speaks her mind and is so bold and confident was so refreshing to me! I just adore her! She’s so freaking cool!!

I just loved these two individually and together. But especially together!!!

Like the moments they shared together??? One tent trope, taking care of her when sick trope, a bit of fake dating trope, second chance trope, hate to love trope… it was just incredible!! And that’s just the surface!!! There was even more to it!!!

However, the only reason why I’m not giving this book full on 5 stars (despite being so amazing) is because I would’ve loved for this Bailey chick to get the karma she deserves. She literally ruined their relationship and all she gets is a “get out of my house”??? Nah… I need more than that. She’s literally such a bitch fr.

But I did like how she wasn’t that big of a role in the story because she was so irritated despite being only present for like 2% of it. So that’s a plus ig… but still!!! Karma should’ve been served to her in some sort of way.

Anyway… other than that little plague, the book was amazing from beginning to end!! I also believe that the writing style improved a lot from book 1 to this one! Especially the character writing!! They had a bit more depth to them than Daisy and Jordan (still love them though ofc), which I loved!!

Overall, this was such a sweet and fun read!! I’m already so excited for the next book!! Can’t wait to see how the other girls are going to get into their relationship!! Once again, if you love off-campus and/or the briar-u series, you’ll def love this one!!!

Hating the Player is part of Rebecca Jenshak’s Campus Wallflowers series and this one is a college sports (he plays basketball), hate to love, second chance romance!

I’ve been listening to the audiobooks for this author and getting caught up on her backlist. This one was my least fav in the series so far and I just never really could get into the story. Which is a bummer because I love second chance romances. It starts off when Gavin and Violet end up on a camping trip with their mutual friends and have to spend time with one another (even sharing a tent) after he cheated on her in the past. He plays basketball for their college and has issues with his parents, his dad was a NBA superstar and his mom a women’s basketball coach. I did like all the Jane Austen chats, Violet is a fan and gets Gavin on board too.

Noioso. Noioso. Noioso.

“I know we can’t start over, but can we try and move forward?”

Violet & Gavin are enemies to second chance lovers perfection! Their story is super sweet, and the tension between them is so good. Gavin seriously betrayed Violet in the past, but they are sort of forced together when they end up on the same camping trip. One sleeping bag trope anyone? Anyway. Their story is super sweet. I don’t usually enjoy second chances, but theirs felt different somehow. Violet had to seriously be vulnerable to open herself back up after being hurt. Anyway. I don’t want to spoil too much, but if you enjoy a slow building second chance, with just enough enemies tension and sports stuff to keep it fun, then you will LOVE Hating the Player!

Love this Wallflower series so far, and can’t wait for more!

Enemies-to-lovers? NA sports romance? YES PLEASE!!! R Jenshak did not disappoint with this novel, and she just upped her game with what is still to come in this FIVE STAR series.

These heroines - I love each and every one of these "wallflowers" but Violet was just everything. She's witty, talented, beautiful, and confident. She will not take anything less than she deserves, and it was so fabulous reading how she kept Gavin in his place with every scene. Gavin....sigh. This guy is so much more than what he appears on the outside. His redemption is well earned, and boy did he fight for it and for Violet. It was swoony, sexy, and everything in between. Their relationship progressed from enemies to friends to lovers, and it all felt so natural that you would have thought they had been together for years.

I loved the chemistry between Gavin & Violet, and all of the side characters only add to this fun group of dynamic college friends. There are several breadcrumbs left by the author for what's to come in this series, and I CAN'T WAIT for it. Well done once again R Jenshak!!

A classic enemies to lovers with a second chance.

Gavin cheated on Violet a year ago with her ex-roommate. Now they’re living next to each other and the hatred for him is at an all time high. She ends up violently sick one night and Gavin takes care of her until she’s better. Now Violet can’t shake him out of her life so easily anymore.

I spent the majority of this book trying to forgive Wes for what he did in the past, problem is he’s a nice genuine guy and his heart was Violets immediately so it was hard to hate him like I wanted to. I’m glad Violet stuck to her guns for so long, but did feel she gave in pretty easily once they started hanging out again.

Also, that ending was a much needed relief.

Hating the Player is a college sports romance that explores the relationship between Violet and Gavin, a couple introduced in the first book, Tutoring the Player. The story reveals that Violet and Gavin used to date, and she even gave him her "V-card." However, their relationship soured after Violet discovered Gavin in bed with her roommate at the time following a drunken night, leading to a deep rift between them.

The book begins with Violet on a camping trip with her cousin Daisy and Daisy's boyfriend, Jordan, who are featured in the first book. Unbeknownst to Violet, Gavin, who is Jordan's friend, also joins the trip, and she finds herself having to share a tent with him. This unexpected situation forces them to confront their unresolved issues.

Throughout the story, Violet and Gavin must navigate their past hurt and mistrust to rebuild their friendship and potentially rekindle their romantic relationship. Violet is focused on creating a dress for a class project, while Gavin is dealing with the pressures of being on the college basketball team and the drama surrounding his famous basketball player father.

I really enjoyed this one! Here we follow Violet (fashion major, fun, hates jocks) and Gavin (basketball star, total player, daddy issues). Violet fell in love with Gavin her freshman year but later on found him in bed with her roommate. She’s hated him since. But recently she’s had more and more run ins with him due to the fact that her cousin, daisy, is dating his friend and Gavin just so happens to be living next door. They’re kinda forced to be around each other and you can just feel the chemistry between them. I was in a HUGE reading slump and this really helped me and just made me want to read! I loved the second chance aspect and I just really felt their chemistry and angst through the pages. You can tell there’s just this pull between them that they fight for so long. This also had some of my oddly specific fav tropes! Firstly, I LOVE when the girl is sick and the guy takes care of her. Automatic fold. Second, I love when the guy has an event to go to and his dad (who he doesn’t have a good relationship with) is gonna be there and he brings a girl who’s not his girlfriend as a date and let’s his dad think that’s his girlfriend. I LOVE IT! Anyways, really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to continue this series! The next couple was hinted and had me 🤭🤭

for being a "cheating" book i was expecting more angst, they both were nice people but this was low-key boring average

and since he actually didn't cheat cause he found out at the end that he didn't hook up with Violet's friend i wanted to read when he tells her he's not a cheater, i mean, i think it's nice Violet trusted him again, but if he didn't cheat I think it's important to tell her 🤷🏽‍♀️ sorry this was repetitive
