Ruthless Triad #5

Phantom: Her Ruthless Fiancé

Rate this book
Pro-Tip: Don’t agree to a fake engagement with a ruthless mafia crimelord like me after you catch your real fiancé cheating. I just might keep you.

The final and most anticipated book in the Ruthless Triad series is almost here!

She agreed to be mine for as long as it takes for a business deal to go through. She thinks this is a game. One she’ll win if she plays by the rules.

Here’s what she doesn’t understand. When it comes to me, there are no rules.

Scruples? Integrity? Playing fair? Nah.

Our engagement might be fake, but she’s about to find out….I’m for real obsessed.

There’s nothing I won’t do to make her mine.

Phantom was RAW!!!

Theodora Taylor's Phantom left me speechless! Who knew that the shark-eyed, brash brute would be my favorite alpha of the Silent Triad! Theodora, you did yourself proud with Phantom and Olivia's story. This was a 20 star read for me!

STORY
I like the Ruthless Triad series. I am not sure why I didn’t like Han’s story, but Phantom’s story made up for it. Phantom’s whole bravado throughout this story was everything. He came off a little dangerous, sexy and a man of few words. Olivia was interesting. I like her, but I also feel like I don’t have much to say on her as well. She definitely complimented Phantom and had that man running around in circles.

A few buts, I know Phantom wants to go legit, but I missed all that crime /mafia family drama. I’m not supposed to compare, but what got me hooked to Victor’s trilogy was all the moving components, mafia drama, girl drama, family drama and so much more. Phantom didn’t have any feuds or crime family drama it was just all about liquor. The subtitle is called Ruthless Fiancé. Really didn’t get ruthless. Phantom has a dangerous presence about him, but it was more a fake to real fiancé thing.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Their sexual chemistry was really good. I like their sex scenes, and it added to their already amazing chemistry that we read.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
We don’t get to see much of Victor and Han but we do see a lot of players from Olivia’s side from best friends to family. Her family was the main focus of this story. I also liked Phantom’s family, love his grandmother.

OVERALL:
A good close out to this series. I enjoyed Phantom and this whole series and connecting with all the characters.

✰✰TRIGGERS: mention of rape

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Hands down, the best in the series! Phantom is everything! I also really loved the heroine. She’s intelligent, not bratty and finds what she needs in a man when she gets involved with Phantom. I loved the fate aspect of the book and involving his grandmother and the rest of his family in their love story was well done. Read this book! Another hit for Theodora Taylor, reminding me why she’s one of my top 5 favorite authors!

This was everything! I loved the hero, heroine, story, side characters...all of it. No complaints what so ever. The best of the series, IMO. The heroine being the richy-rich, silver spoon one was a nice change of pace. Phantom was no scrub himself, but liked this wasn't the typical Cinderella trope.

I honestly dont know if i loved or hated this book

Glad all of the Silent Triad got their endings and this series is over, but honestly... i dont think i enjoyed this one. Ive read a lot of TT's books and I love most of them. And dont get me wrong, i love Phantom... but i hated the wishy washy attitude in the whole thing.
Once AGAIN misunderstandings and lack of communication are the catalysts for drama for an otherwise perfect couple. But whats doubly annoying about it showing up in this story is the insistence to make both the female lead (i guess shes supposed to be a secret so i wont spoil her name - but its honestly kind of a random woman) and Phantom be super adamant about being honest with each other and trusting just to literally keep secrets and basically betray each other in the story.
Weird attempt by TT to include extra drama at the end, but I guess I need to become an author because I LITERALLY guessed (100% accurately) what the "twist" at the tail end was. And it was soooo not justified, which is why i cant give this anything higher than 2 stars. (I SERIOUSLY have a problem with "i didnt memorize your phone number" as one of the things that causes a massive problem at the end.
Big problem with this too is as much as Phantom was in Victor's and Han's stories, they were barely in his and I really wanted more male-bonding brothethood, loyalty stuff. Especially since Victor and Han's stories are finished (or finishing, depending on when the story is taking place), i feel like it wouldnt have been hard to have Phantom interacting with them a lot more.
So basically - loved Phantom and his crass, direct attitude, but i dont know if i hated the female lead or what TT wrote for her. Its a very small portion of the story but wow they made Amber (Luca's lady) out to seem like a real jugemental b**ch, which I didnt think was possible since she was so understanding in Victor & Dawn's story. But someone had to take the hit I guess so that the female lead could show her "loyalty" to Phantom, so why not have it be the blind, normally very supportive and strong lawyer take it, as opposed to some other minor or side character. The point could still be made that the Female Lead supports Phantom without sh*tting on the star of another story series.
I dunno, another abrupt ending (because you have to get TTs newsletter to read the Epilogue) with a mediocre story, im a little upset with the story as a whole.

I actually liked Phantom! If you read my reviews on the previous "Ruthless" stories you know I haven't been the biggest fan of this series. To my surprise, however, I not only read through Phantom in record time but I found that a lot of the flaws (those things that turned me off about the Victor trilogy and even Han) were missing in this book! Yes!
I didn't go into this book hopeful as I always saw Phantom as a caricature and a stereotypical big and somewhat dumb thug. To my reading delight, he was instead surprisingly likable and mature. More so than his fellow members of the Silent Triad. I still can't believe I found his character so adorable and sweet despite the to-be-expected brutishness. His love for Olivia was obsessive for sure, but it was deep and true. While there was lust in excess, you never doubted how smitten he was with her as a person or how devastated he would be without her.
I was a little less sold on her feelings for him, particularly in the beginning. I'm not sure that someone like her would so out of the blue fall for someone like Phantom, but when she did she was a stand by your man type of woman and didn't let anyone put him down! I particularly like the fact that they kept it 100 between them. As someone who isn't a big fan of manufacturing problems that can easily be resolved with a word, I appreciated this. Whenever trouble did arise, Phantom of all characters proved to be the adult in the room. Phantom = my favorite head of the Silent Triad!
As this is a spoiler-free review, I won't go into details, but I do recommend it and I'm happy to give Phantom 4 out of 5 stars.

Well,Theodora Taylor really saved the best for last! This was my favorite book of the Ruthless Triad series! I love love love Phantom! Victor and Han had to grow on me, but I loved Phantom from the start! His crass sense of humor and sarcasm had me smiling and laughing out loud from beginning to end.

“Pro-Tip: Don’t agree to a fake engagement with a ruthless mafia crimelord like me after you catch your real fiancé cheating. I just might keep you.”

Umm, SOLD!

I’m a huge fan of fake dating, and I *loved* this take on the trope — something about it felt really fresh and captivating. I really enjoyed the diverse cast of characters, the unexpected humour, the delicious revenge subplot, and the SPICE. Whew. The steaminess in Olivia and Phantom’s first night together was *thiiiiick*. 🥵 And the way they stood up for each other? That made me all goo-ey inside.

I have a feeling the third act conflict won’t be for everyone. I will admit I side-eyed it a bit while reading, but the dual POV was utilised well and made for great storytelling, and by the end I loved how it all played out.

What a satisfying story. I’ve already re-listened to parts of the audiobook!

Hawk and his heiress

Move over Victor and Han. My heart belongs to another and his name is Phantom. I loved his and Olivia's relationship. It was straight no chaser for the quiet beast who saw what he wanted and found a way to get it (with a little help from his granny). I loved their relationship because when one was ready to give up and pull away the other was willing to fight and not give up. Now tworce the end I wanted to molly wap Olivia but that all worked out. I'm gonna miss the triads but knowing Theodora they'll pop up in some of her future books!

I must admit that I didn't like Phantom when he was first introduced to us in the earlier books. His mouthy, couldn't care less for anyone but his triad family attitude was a bit much for me. But after Han's story, I just knew Phantom's was going to be just as good. Boy, was I ever wrong. It's better than the previous books in the series! It's real, raw and hot and my absolute favourite of the three books in the series. Ms Taylor definitely saved the best for last.
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Hak-kan is 🔥

I’m just going to say I’m not able to adequately put together the right words to describe my love for this book and this author. Phantom has watched his two “brothers” and how they were in relationships and wanted to be different. Be grown up and communicate. Olivia is a beast. I loved how she broke out of her “southern bell shell” and defended and fought for Phantom. Her read of Amber was great! The side characters added so much to the story. I am mopping up the crumbs for Bernice and O2. I’ll wait patiently 🙄 for that book.

The last of the Ruthless series

Phantom, the last of the Silent Triad to find the 1 for him did not disappoint. From beginning to end I was hooked. Phantom found in Olivia his own personal cheerleader and Olivia a confidence booster. The side characters were interesting especially Phantom's grandmother. This one had me wanting more.♥️♥️♥️♥️🔥🔥🔥

Why are the Black women in these books written with so much trauma in their backstory??? Why can’t these women be confident and secure in their identity. No self esteem whatsoever… And why does she feel like she owes this white racist world anything? That part was the worst. It’s infuriating and weird. Also why wasn’t Olivia’s family Black?!? Why the hell did she have to be adopted by some lame ass white family? This white family is trash and obtuse when it comes to Olivia…..Ridiculous….the Black housekeeper was also kinda problematic AF too. Also the south I’m not a monolith. We’re not characters from gone with the wind. The conflict portion that these books always have was so ridiculous and made no sense….wtf would she go back to Garrett???? Complete Nonsense.

Once again dumb ass, intentional, misunderstandings ruin what could’ve been a bomb ass storyline and overall great book.

I was so excited because right from the getco Phantom has all the inner workings to be a great male main character;
Alpha male ✔️
Intense ✔️
Funny af ✔️
Not afraid to show his love ✔️
And while Olivia wasn’t as strong of a female character as I wanted her to be, Phantom more than made up for that.

Then the stupid ass misunderstandings and mistakes started to happen, not once but TWICE. Which blew my mind because they had already established with each other that they weren’t going to be that type of couple.

Ah well another bites the dust.

Greed is NOT good!

Garrett Easton found that out. All he wanted was money to cover his gambling debts. He was a selfish spoiled brat who did not love his fiancee. He wanted to get his hand on her family's whiskey company. He messed up when she caught him in flagrante delicto. That gave Phantom an in with Dr. Olivia Glendaver, heiress to the Glendaver Whiskey fortune. He'd met her ten years prior when his grandmother latched on to Olivia when she had an accident. His maamaa was a fortune teller and told him his future. Phantom aka Hak-Kan Zhang thought his old grandmother was crazy because Dr. Livvy was so out of his league. Poor Olivia already had poor self-esteem despite her being a doctor. Little did she know that Phantom also had the same problem even though no one would think it to look at him.

Phantom had an opportunity to get Olivia, and she "let him in." He turned out to be so much more of a caring person than Garrett ever was who only looked good on paper. But there were so many things about her ex she was totally unaware of. Garrett had another card up his sleeves that he tried to play but he just could not beat true love.

I love it when the underdog outsmarts the spoiled old money brat. Phantom may have been a little rough around the edges, but Olivia did not care about that. To her, he was beautiful and as long as they were together, they could handle anything together.

I loved this story but we still did not find out who Bernice's daughter, O2's father is. Who's her baby daddy?

I am giving this book five stars solely for the character of Phantom. I like Olivia but Phantom is such a great and entertaining hero, that I have to give him all the praise. I know that with the earlier books in this series, Phantom's fiancee was never named but I figured out by clues from characters' statements that it was likely Olivia. Happy to have guessed correctly.

Phantom is the muscle of the Silent Triad. He's intelligent and undiplomatic but the bruiser of the Dragon heads. When he first meets Olivia, he's impressed by her class and her beauty. Their timing was off but he never forgot about her... nor she him. When they meet years later in a not meet-cute but very engrossing situation, the sparks are still there between them.

Olivia isn't a damsel in distress in the true meaning but she's a damsel in need of a man like Phantom who helps her to open up and be true to herself instead of putting her own wants and needs on the backburner. I really enjoyed their connection because you could see how the two lift each other up. While neither is by no means perfect, they're absolutely perfect for each other. Reading Phantom and Olivia's love story is immensely enjoyable thus I read it all in one sitting cause I couldn't put the book down.

"Phantom" is a highly captivating read with some good moments of angst and comedy mixed in to the romantic drama. I totally recommend this book.

What a Ride!

I wish I could give this book more than five stars. This book was amazing. Phantom was the hottest alpha of the silent triad. I thought Victor was a beast but Phantom took the cake. If I had to choose out of Victor, Han, and Phantom, Phantom would be my number one choice. Olivia was a real ride-or-die chick. She stood up to Amber when Amber was trying to put Phantom down. And we all know that no one gets the last word in when it comes to Amber. This book brought the fire. The sex scenes were hot hot hot. This author is just so amazing with her story telling that I was so pulled into this story and I did not want to come up for air.

Awesome!!!

I was so happy for this release. I literally devoured the story and it was pure dynamite. I just love Phantom and my respect for him went up tenfold. Olivia blossomed under his care and together they were formidable. Not many women can hold their own with Amber Ferrari, but Olivia handled her well.😅😅 This is the last book in the Chinese mafia series and if I say so, the best. I hope we are allowed glimpses into their lives through other books. Whatever this author has planned next, I'm all in. Great storytelling with fantastic characters. This one is a definite re-read.

100 stars!! I just want to make it very clear that I love me some Phantom! Hands down! He is my new book boyfriend! I have be waiting for his story since he first appeared in Victor. He was just a mystery that I wanted to solve. I love the romance he has with Olivia. You just see and feel the love he has for her from the very moment he lays eyes on her. This will be a book I will re-read over and over!

Phantom!!!

I am in love with Phantom! He was a true Alpha if ever one was written. The way he was with Olivia, it just melted my heart. And the sex! Whew!.. Chile, it was hawt. This is an amazing series. The 50 loving states is a unique concept, it has hot, sexy romantic storylines that are linked but each book has it's own flavor. The way Ms.Taylor writes these, it's amazing! No two couples are the same. Each one feels fresh and new. I have read very single book in this series, there isn't a bad one in the bunch. Bravo!! I can't wait for more.

I love the creativity of the books and merging of cultures-so cool and makes for a well-researched, exciting and diverse series to read. I received an ARC-Advanced Reader Copy, but I will be adding this book to my series and library.

I loved Han and Victor but Phantom is a whole mood. Plus I loved him and Olivia together. It was good to see them each find a kindred spirit that matched their loyalty to others. Out of all of the Silent Triad's wives, Olivia was my favorite. She was too nice for her own good until that BDE changed her outlook on things. Definitely would like to see more of these two.

Phantom is Intense!

I loved Victor, I loved Han, but I absolutely adored Phantom! I can say hands down that he is my favorite! I loved his interaction with Olivia and their off the charts chemistry. Phantom is intense, sexy, hot and deadly, and Olivia is strong, beautiful and can handle what he brings to the table. I enjoy reading books by Theodora Taylor, she has a way of creating character that will make the reader cheer for the hero and heroine, and want to fight anyone who stand in their way. Phantom is a must read, it will make you want more.
