Margaret Long’s world looks bright and shiny on the outside. Married to a successful attorney, she lives in a mini-mansion with her husband and their perfect daughter. No one would imagine how dim and dark her life really is. With a fractured heart and a broken body, she wonders how to break free.

The day Margaret happens to meet Mick Grantham is serendipitous. With a huge appetite for success after rescuing his mom from a violent situation, he now feeds that hunger by rebuilding broken businesses, not people. Although Margaret has a vibrant personality, her fragile exterior brings out his compassion, drawing him into her world.

It’s a dangerous situation, especially with Margaret’s outspoken daughter involved, who is wiser than her years. Someone is likely to get hurt, but Margaret and Mick’s attraction can’t be helped until changing circumstances force them to a halt.

Not all happy endings are born easily, but those won through adversity are often the most satisfying.

This book contains difficult and sensitive subject matters.

A recent poll of her readers described Rachel Blaufeld as insightful, generous, articulate, and spunky. Originally a clinical social worker, Rachel creates broken yet redeeming characters. She’s been known to turn up the angst like cranking up the heat in the dead of winter. A devout coffee drinker and doughnut eater, Rachel spends way too many hours in local coffee shops, downing the aforementioned goodies while she plots her ideas.

As a side note, Blaufeld, also a long-time blogger and an advocate of woman-run anything, is fearless about sharing her opinion. She captured the ears of stay-at-home and working moms on her blog, BacknGrooveMom, chronicling her adventures in parenting tweens and running a business, often at the same time. To her, work/life/family balance is an urban legend, but she does her best. Rachel has also blogged for The Huffington Post and Modern Mom. Most recently, her insights can be found in USA TODAY Happy Ever After Blog, where she shares conversations at “In Bed with a Romance Author.”

Rachel lives around the corner from her childhood home in Pennsylvania with her family and two beagles. When she isn’t writing, she can be found courtside, tweeting about hoops as her son plays, or walking around the house wearing earplugs while her other son, the drummer, bangs away.

This book is only 200 pages, but it felt like 500. It dragged on, and I really feel like nothing happened. It was predictable and dull. The romance was inconsistent and surface-level. Although, I did really like the main character's daughter.
I was hoping for something a little more emotionally-stirring. :(

This book was provided as an ARC. All opinions are my own.
" ...some stories are messy. It's not how neatly they were packaged but what they look like when they're unwrapped."
Whoa. This book wow. I read this book as part of my "spooky and dark" TBR. It was not spooky but it was dark. It was dark in the sense that men and women deal with abuse all the time. I have seen it with my own eyes. Dealing with those things and watching those you love deal with those things can be a really really hard thing to watch.
Blaufeld shows us that there is always a light. Mick and Mar's story was messy. But it was worth the chaos. This book really really struck me at the very end with that quote. All of our stories are messy, and sometimes we have to unwrap the ugly or the chaos in order to see what is beautiful. I also loved this book because it showed a woman that was struggling to stand up for herself. Sometimes we see these headstrong women just "do it" well that's not always the case. Especially within abusive situations and it doesn't even have to be spousal abuse. It can be hard for the abused to recognize the abuse and then decide what to do with it. Blaufeld really displayed this for Marg.
I look forward to reading more of Rachel Blaufeld!!

Faded Sunset is amazing. I love we get a little bit of a different love story with this one. You have Margaret who is a little on the stuck side and reminded always by her husband. Her bond with her daughter is beautiful. You see so much happen in this one that will pull at those heart strings and really shows how unhealthy marriages are not okay. I love Mick so much. He is this force that you do not want to mess with. You feel for him once he meets Margaret. There is this pull that you cannot deny and it shows sometimes love can happen when it is not the right time. I love how he is with Margaret's daughter and treats her how she deserves a father figure to treat her. I love how once things start to come out about Margaret that she has a support system and forms wonderful bonds with people she would have written off. I love the burn in this one between Mick and Margaret so much. I could not put this one down for anything. This is one of those books that may have triggers for some but know that this is such a beautiful story in the end. I loved this one so much. You really need to one click this one.

Faded Sunset is one emotional, heartbreaking journey that will beautifully rebuild your shattered heart. Margaret is in a point in her life that she is unhappy, but doesn't want to disrupt her daughter's life, but when a random encounter with Mick, a seed starts to grow in her mind about changing her situation. Mick is a man who wants to fix things and he will have you swooning all over the place. Mick and Margaret have an instant connection and the chemistry gets harder and harder to ignore, but Margaret won't do anything to rock the boat or put her daughter in harms way. These two dance back and forth while Margaret tries to figure a way out, but when things start to get complicated, an outspoken daughter who is wise beyond her years, and fate knocking at the door, will Margaret finally have happy life for her and her daughter, or will things be too far broken to fix? This story will grab you from the first page and have you on the edge of your seat rooting for Margaret to work things out and falling head over heels for Mick!

This is a different take on a love story. I’m a firm believer that people come into our lives for a reason…that’s what Mick did for Margaret.

Margaret is just trying to survive. She has an amazing daughter (Priscilla) who is growing up to fast and wise beyond her years. And she’s married to Tommy who is a horrible human. Parts of the book are hard to read because I just can’t imagine. She’s trying to find a way out of her current situation and along comes Mick.

Mick is a bit of a mystery at first. He happens to be at the right place at the right time. It started as a simple conversation between strangers and yet he becomes a life line for Margaret. He’s almost too good to be true, but as you read the book - you will find he’s a just a wonderful human.

Rachel does an amazing job of telling this story in the most beautiful way. Margaret, Mick and Pricilla are amazing characters who are fighters, lovers and survivors.

I requested an arc and I am leaving my honest review.

Margaret wanted the American dream…the devoted husband, great home and adorable daughter. She had most of that, unfortunately her husband was a mean abusive jerk. Margaret just didn’t know how to get out of the situation she was in. wanting a better life for her and her daughter she knew she needed to do something. Mick was minding his own business running his business and moving on from a rough childhood. When Mick met Margaret he knew she was the one for him and she didn’t have to hide her problems from him. This was a great emotional journey that I wasn't expecting to take but sooo happy I did. I really Enjoy this authors writing style and how fast paced this book was. I definitely look forward to reading more books by this author.

Faded Sunset by Rachel Blaufeld is a story of survival and strength and will pull on your heartstrings.

Margaret’s marriage is a dumpster fire and broken beyond repair. Her husband Tommy is physically and emotionally abusive, and she needs to leave. Margaret, who has one foot out the door, meets Mick, a sweetheart of a man. He embraces her situation and encourages her to be all she can be for herself and her daughter.

This emotion-filled romance is filled with heart. Faded Sunset is a good story with a perfect HEA!

This book contains difficult and sensitive subject matter.

This story was heartbreaking because how could someone take so much from someone. Margaret has endured the type of life she has only because of her daughter. She will do anything for her and she wants her to have a family whether the family is broken or not. Margaret and her husband just put up a front because of their daughter, but what Margaret doesn't count on is meeting a man who will brighten up her life.

Mick happens to be at the same bar as Margaret and they strike up a conversation. She realizes how easy going it can be with any male. He gives her compliments, something she hasn't heard in years and it's hard for her to believe that someone other than her husband can be interested in her. Mick realizes that Margaret doesn't live an easy life with her husband and he encourages her to leave and start new with her daughter. But Margaret doesn't feel confident enough to be able to take that step. Something drastic has to happen in order for her to take that leap, and boy does it happen!

Mick is a gentle man who has a lot of patience for Margaret. He has never shown that much interest in a woman, or at least it's been a long time for him, but something about this married woman ignites him. He feels rejuvenated and happy. The only thing is, can Margaret make his dreams a reality and hers as well?

This book touched me because of the elements of the story. I felt for Margaret and I completely understood her even though I've never been in her shoes, but we certainly can understand when things get serious and/or need a change.

I commend Mick for being a brave man in dealing with a situation that he had no business being involved in, but when his feelings grew for Margaret, he felt like he needed to step in and guide her to a better future and that future included him.

Faded Sunset emotional intensity had me captivated for three full days. I love the main characters Mick and Margo. They are both such good people. It is easy to see why they are instantly drawn together and bound beyond all forces that would try to separate them.

This story is interesting and intricately detailed. Rachel Blaufeld has written a story that is both painful and strikingly beautiful in the way it unfolds. It is honest and tough in its presentation. I had a hard time putting this book down.

Faded Sunset is ans eye-opening and inspirational story. Even in its darker moments the seed of hope is present. I found myself lost in the pages and praying for a happy resolution to this distressing situation. Ms. Blaufeld done a masterful job of highlighting the strength and resilience of the human spirit in trying times.

I have just discovered Rachel and having checked her back catalogue I know I will be reading many more of her books.
I really enjoyed this book it has several storyline arcs all revolving around the life of Margaret Long. Her marriage is broken beyond repair and honestly I rejoiced so much when it happened however the journey to get there is heartbreaking and hard to read. There are two people who bring light and happiness to her life, her daughter Priscilla and when she meets him Mick. This book has cheating in it but I don't care in fact I was cheering her on willing her to grab hold of him and not let go for a second. I loved them together,it was messy and complicated but sometimes love is. Mick was patient but determined to be there for her. I loved how without realising it she had build them a support system. I adored how Rachel wrote their 'dates' showing the passion between them but also Mick's struggle to do the right thing whilst falling in love. I would have liked more scenes with Mick and Priscilla so we could see how he built the father figure relationship.

This book was a great escape and not the typical story I read. I found this story very easy to get lost in however it is not a read for everyone with the underlying darkness. The author did a brilliant job developing the characters and making Mick the strong man who truly was just a fixer at heart after his upbringing. She was an equally strong character who was caught in a horrible cycle and had no family support and felt she was so isolated only to realize she wasn't. This truly has a heart wrenching story which left me hoping and praying for the best for her and her daughter.

Started off strong and I was really into it but the further it went, the more stagnant it became. I noticed the repetition of phrases - the connection they have is so sudden, etc. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop in regards to her husband but nothing happened. Overall, this was just a dull quick read.

Also - this should have been under different tags. I thought this was supposed to be an emotional read, with an affair/cheating. And yeah okay on the surface, it was. But the husband was an abuser their whole marriage with a mistress to boot, so I don’t care that the wife started an affair. This just wasn’t what I expected it to be.

Margaret's life is perfect on the outside but in the four walls of her house her life is anything but. Margaret has a beautiful bond with her daughter. The day she meets Mick sets the wheels in motion for change. This is a beautiful story but may trigger some.

I quite enjoyed this. I don't read a lot of books where the characters are in their late 30s, because I most often can't quite connect with the characters. In this book I didn't have that problem at all.

Margo's and Mick's characters were understandable, I got where they came from, but I really have a problem with infidelity (hence the 1 star subtraction), everything else was amazing. I really, really wish Margo got out of her marriage before jumping into anything with Mick.

Wow. Faded Sunset was a bit difficult to read at times. I knew going into it that the heroine is trapped in an abusive marriage, but it was still hard to read. But Rachel Blaufeld so beautifully handles how Margaret rises above her abusive marriage and finds a new happy with another man.

Many of the violent scenes happen off-page, so it isn't difficult to digest them in that way, but rather the way Margaret is so broken as a result of her abusive relationship with Tommy. She feels incredibly guilty over the care and love she gets from her affair with Mick, even though the husband she's cheating on is a grade-A jerk.

Margaret didn't set out to find another man the night she met Mick, but they were fated to meet. I loved how wonderfully she blossomed when she was with him, and how he helped her find the strength to break the cycle before her preteen daughter got caught up in the violence. Margaret even found a family of her choosing in the parents of her daughter's friends she always kept at an arm's distance.

Mick and Margaret's story is messy and emotional, but it is full of so much inspiration and bravery and hope.

I haven't read a ton of Rachel Blaufeld, but what I have read I've enjoyed.
This story really pulls at your heartstrings and while it does have some hard topics, it's a really great story. A story about overcoming and healing, falling in love again.
This story is a slow burn with amazing chemistry. And you wonder how it will all fall together or fall apart.
There's a lot of hard topics, as I said, but it's written beautifully and is a great remind that you never really know what's going on in someone's life.

Mick and Margaret’s story is powerful. People that suffer can crumble and break or come out on top. I wasn’t sure how this was going to end as the ups and downs led us through the story. Very intense but a great read.

Faded Sunset's prologue pulled me in, making me feel so much that I didn't want to put it down.

In true Blaufeld fashion, a healthy does of reality makes us sit in the uncomfortable to understand these characters, which always makes for a beautiful story.

Mick and Margo are bent but not broken. Mick comes in with a hell of a lot of patience and charm (in a good way). I love how he empowers Margo, and through it all she finds her strength.

And I LOVED Priss, Margo's daughter, who seemed like she was "13 Going On 30."

There's a lot to be said for stories that remind you to treat people with kindness, because you never know what's going on in someone's life.

What an incredible story!
This author never fails giving her readers intriguing all consuming stories that grab your attention from beginning to end.
This is not your typical romance.
Margaret and Mick’s journey starts out slowly as their lives come together in the midst of horrible circumstances. Theirs is an emotional and heart wrenching story that explores love and it’s many complicated facets.
Smart, provocative and thought provoking, this story challenges the reader to look at what someone is willing to do to heal the messy complexities of marriage. Things are not always what they appear.

There is a lot I can say here, but I want the readers to get the whole experience of this beautifully written story. We all project ourselves to the world. Sometimes the story behind the scenes is the same. Many times it is not. Margaret’s story is the latter and a little darker. The timing of meeting a stranger, maybe she can re-write her story.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Faded Sunset by Rachel Blaufeld

I received an ARC for an honest review. This was a first for me from this author so that’s always exciting. This book has a great story and it deals with a huge trigger. If you are a Erwin that is triggered by physical and emotional abuse then you have been warned. I cannot recommend this book enough though. The author did amazing writing Margaret’s story. She is a housewife who to everyone she has it all. A beautiful daughter an amazing house a job she enjoys and a husband who adores her. But what’s presented to the world and what is your reality behind closed doors can be completely opposite. After years of being abused by her husband Margaret on her one day of just being fait brings her Mick. Mick is a businessman who had a tuff upbringing who has dedicated himself to growing his business. Mick meets Margo and instantly there is this connection between the two. He tries to walk away when he realizes she is a married woman but then he sees her pain and her bruises and can’t get her off his mind. Will they walk away from each other or will their chemistry be too much. This story was great and I honestly think you should go and grab it. It will keep you wanting to know what happens to Margo and will Mick be a part of her future. Oh and you will want to know what happens to Pricilla her fighter who is a super strong kid. I just didn’t give it the full 5 stars because to be completely honest in some parts the book kind of dulled and then it was like bam bam this happens and then this happens. The writer kind of loses you for some parts and it feels kind of rushed in some way. Besides that great story.
