Verity
He crushed my heart when he was just an awkward teenager. Now that he’s a ruthless, intimidatingly gorgeous billionaire CEO, he’s determined to crush my dreams as well.

This is the biggest break of my career. Everyone is relying on me to make the perfect pitch for the project. But, when the man to decide my fate strolls into the conference room, I struggle to remember my own name, let alone the presentation I’ve been preparing for weeks. To say I crash and burn is an understatement.

But why would Harry pretend he doesn’t know me? Why would he humiliate me? Wasn’t
he the one to break my heart all those years ago? Wasn’t I the one who was ghosted?

It hurts to feel unwanted by the one person I used to think I could trust, but then that feeling is nothing new to me, given my past.

Harry
I left my nerdy teenage side behind long ago. All it ever got me was bullied at school by the posh kids and let down by the prettiest girl I ever saw. So I’ll show Verity how far I’ve come and punish her for ever rejecting me.

Why then, when I should be basking in my revenge, can I not get the hurt expression on her beautiful face out of my mind?

What if I got it wrong all those years ago, leaving her when she needed me the most? What if I let love slip through my fingers then, and now I’m repeating the same mistake?

Full-length, stand-alone, enemies to lovers, second chance romance.

Trigger warnings for childhood abuse and bullying.

    Nice and swift reading.
The only thing is that the entire book builds up this entire horrible past that they’re trying to hide and when they do tell it it’s done in like 2 pages.
Would have been great if they built up and detailed more on that past.
    Just more development.
    Overall good book with HEA

I ultimately really liked this read. There are times I get irritated that so much is made out like the guy has to be a mind reader. It usually sorts itself out. The book really is about proper communication, pride and speaking up.
Ive loved the characters, the wry humor and English-ness of all her books.

I love that Susie Tate does not shy away from tackling characters with trauma. To watch these smart accomplished characters struggle with their trauma is unreal. Unwanted was amazing, characters were well rounded and the growth was incredible and believable. Thank you Susie Tate for another fantastic book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another outstanding book.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 11, 2024
The author has such an innate understanding of human emotion. This of course comes from their career as a GP, but it’s a true skill to be able to not only transfer it to the page, but also make us feel every emotion.

There is no such thing as a perfect person and the author writes this honestly. We humans are complex creatures and the author is so true to the complexities of mental health and how our history, trauma and upbringing can have such an impact on many facets of our lives, from childhood into adulthood. But that we are who we are and that’s ok.

Every character in each book is different, there are no two characters the same and so many meaningful story lines that are interconnected between each book.

I can’t help but still love Max in this book, he truly makes me smile.

I’m excited for any more future stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Found Family - Lady V and her Hedgehog
Reviewed in Australia on September 25, 2023
Some people should never become parents, you find solace with the person you create a safe bubble with - found family is the best. These are the hard and painful truths that have shaped unwanted Verity Markham, into transforming into the hard-nosed, beautifully-broken, sweetly-caring, boss lady she has grown into.
Verity and Harry’s enthralling relationship, started from the sparks of fire that flamed for each other back in school, became an emotional and entrancing tale that I couldn’t turn away from and devoured in one sitting. Through painful life experiences, misunderstandings, Verity’s inability to let her true self be witnessed by others and Harry’s painfully awkward prickliness - the author’s heartfelt words combined to give us another stellar story in her loveable world of crazy and enticing characters.
We learn more of the hardships Verity and her twin Heath had to endure; we experience the determination and metamorphosis of Harry into the compelling business man he is today. Most of all we delight in this wonderful couples’ reunion and how they fought so hard for their happiness together. It was brilliant to see the cameos of all the previous Dorset couples, their continuing stories and how they helped Verity and Harry find their way back to being the pillars of strength they are for each other.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the respite these few hours of reading has gifted me and I thank the author for giving me the opportunity to enjoy the arc and provide my voluntary review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 29, 2023
It is easy to get drawn into a Susie Tate book, a good storyline and interesting characters make them a compelling read.
Verity meets Harry Yorke again 20 years after they left school, she thought they’d been close friends at school until he’d ghosted her just before the end of their last term.
Her architect’s firm had been bidding for a prestigious new build sponsored by Harry, as they were at the cutting edge of carbon neutral design their bid was in with a good chance, yet Harry cut short their presentation and dismissed them. Verity was furious and confronted him but he pretended he barely remembered her, but his friend and associate Toby intervened and it looked like they may get another chance to bid, but that doesn’t end well either.
I’ve been looking forward to reading Verity’s story and I was not disappointed. It’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with a lot of misunderstanding and misdirections.

3.0 out of 5 stars Angsty story but unlikable MMC
Reviewed in Canada on August 15, 2024
Overall, this is great storytelling with a great FMC, but the MMC is selfish (which he admits), and a lot like real billionaire "nerds" - angry and seeking revenge from those who "wronged" them, and his family, minus his father and sister-in-law, are also narrow-minded.
This is the 2nd story I've read by this author where the mother of the MMC is awful and clearly has poor boundaries with their male children and wrongfully judges the FMC until the truth slaps them in the face.
Honestly, with this story, I felt like the FMC deserved better. Verity loved Harry as a teenager, but she was love-starved and abused as a child/teen. As an adult, she deserved someone who wouldn't take their insecurities out on her and someone who bothered to learn about her and her past.
She went to therapy, she did work to deal with her past. What did Harry do? Use his money and power to bully her and her company. How was he any better than those who bullied him as a teenager?
Great writer, but this character doesn't do enough to redeem himself, in my opinion.
