I couldn’t possibly have been more wrong the night I’d tackled Hunter Moore to the ground in the middle of the night.
To be fair, the street was pitch-black, the wheel to my suitcase had popped off, and I found myself face to face with a stranger charging at me.
My instincts had kicked in, and instead, I’d landed him straight on his back with my knee pressed to his chest. Turns out, the stranger I’d tackled to the ground was my brother’s roommate… which meant he was also mine.
With my dreams coming to a screeching halt, I was left with no other choice than to move in with my brother and his roommates.
Hunter Moore was star pitcher for the Northeast Rebels. Although I’d found his incessant talk of baseball obnoxious, I couldn’t help but relate to how deep his passion ran. Even if our dreams were completely different.
With a shared bathroom and a single wall between our bedrooms, we couldn't resist pushing the boundaries.
Potent green eyes. Perfectly sculpted muscle. I was inevitably drawn in.
But the closer we became, the more I learned just how dedicated Hunter was to his dream, no matter the cost. Only I was unaware, he'd already traded mine for his.

Brittany is a New Adult, Contemporary romance author best known for writing steamy, heart-clenching love stories, pulling out all the feels. She resides in Maine with her two sons and husband. She loves reading and writing spicy romances and is a Starbucks addict.
Tropes: - roomies - hate to love - best friend’s sister - sports (baseball)
Ophelia is down on her luck after not only losing her job but the apartment she’d been subletting in NYC, and is forced to move back to her hometown and into her brother’s house.
As if that weren’t bad enough, she’s forced to walk alone in the middle of the night to her new home, her suitcase loses a wheel, and she almost gets attacked by a hooded man. Except the green eyed stranger she tackled wasn’t trying to rob her, he was out for a run, and he just so happens to be one of her new roommates.
Hunter Moore is the star pitcher for her brother’s baseball team. He eat, sleeps, and breathes baseball, and only sees her as a distraction. He’s rude and standoffish, but something about Hunter drawers Ophelia in no matter how much he pushes her buttons.
The chemistry between Ophelia and Hunter is off the charts hot, and despite their rocky start, they’re actually pretty cute together. I loved that these two characters with their high walls and stubborn determination were able to bring out softer more vulnerable sides to each other, but oof that third act conflict punched me in the gut.
The Wrong Pitch was seriously so so good! I’m really happy that Ophelia & Hunter both got to live their dreams & get to live happily ever after. So looking forward to the second book in this series!
It was a pleasure to read this sports, college, enemies to lovers romance from new to me author.
The chemistry between our MC's Ophelia and Hunter was smoking hot!!! Both are great characters, both ambitious, and know what they want in life. For him, he lives and breathes baseball, for her its fashion design.
This story.... has good balance of sweetness, spice and sass.
Ophelia + Hunter'relationship - It started with a tackle and ended with a kiss. 😘
I really enjoyed this story, I devoured it and wanted more.
Thank you to Grey's Promotions, for providing me with this ARC. 😊
Ophelia has just lost her job and her apartment so she is forced to go back home and live with her brother. Her brother has two roommates, including Hunter who makes her feel things that she’s never felt before. He’s determined to play baseball in Boston and she’s determined to go back to NYC. Can they make it work?
I love sports romances so much and I had a fantastic time reading this book. They are very fast moving as a couple but I think that it works very well. They really see each other for who they truly are. Hunter and Ophelia want the best for each other and they never stop rooting for the other person’s dream.
The third act break up in this book is very necessary and I loved seeing Ophelias growth during that time. She found what she wanted in life and just went for it. They just make each other so happy and in turn that makes me very happy.
Ophelia’s life has turned into a nightmare. Having left her senior year to join as a paid intern for a big designer, it all comes crumbling down overnight. No job and no home she’s forced to move in with her brother, Reed…..and his two roommates Dawson and Hunter. This wasn’t what she had planned for her life. She is finding it hard to get used to not being in New York. Life back in her old hometown is a lot quieter and being around Reed with his baseball player teammates is hard. Especially as one of being a little obnoxious and rude to her. But there’s a passion behind his eyes that she can see. And pain. Hunter is very aware of her too. But his need to fulfil his life long dream of becoming a pro baseball player is within reach…. but how he gets to that point has a damaging background to it.
I enjoyed this story, Ophelia and her sewing machine trundling down the road made me share a love with her straight away- sewing! Her passion for being creative and wanting to get her designs out there was amazing to read. I’ve not read many sport stories but they’re becoming a favourite of mine along with rockstar troupes.
Well worth a read, I highly recommend it. I just love Hunter and Ophelia.
I'm a sucker for a sports romance, especially when the brothers best friend trope is thrown in as well, so I was really looking forward to this one! And although it was enjoyable, i didn't altogether *love* Hunter, I did really connect to Ophelia and her struggles. I thought the was such a hilarious spitfire, and I loved how she never once backed down from Hunters attitude and jabs, but also saw the pain he was trying to hide. They did have a great relationship, I just wish it didn't take so long to get to that point.
All in all, this was worth the read and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **
I received this from Grey’s Promotions , in exchange for my honest opinion.
Ophelia lost her job, and her apartment, forcing her to move in with her brother, who already has two roommates living with him, Hunter and Dawson.
Hunter is the pitcher for the Northeast Rebels, which is all he talks about. Hunter and I couldn’t be more different, but he wears her down with how passionate he is about what he does.
Sharing a bathroom, and a wall, it’s hard not to get close to someone. The chemistry and tension between the too, is so good!
Tropes are - sports romance (baseball) - Forced proximity - Enemies to lovers - Brothers friend - Opposites attract - Contemporary romance - Angsty - Spicy
I deducted one star because Hunter "pitched first" every game (that doesn't ever happen, a starter normally needs a week of rest) and when he "signed to an MLB team" after college he immediately started without going to the minors and that's just not realistic lol. I can't help that I'm a baseball fanatic.
This college romance from Brittany Taylor was SO GOOD!
I loved the meet-cute, I loved the hate-to-love, then there was the brother's best friend trope as well, and I was just hooked.
Hunter intrigued me. Ophelia had my curiosity as well. I will say that I found myself wondering what Hunter was hiding. Why wasn't he sharing info about it? Plus I kept coming back to Jamie. Where did he fit into this all? Then there was the job that Ophelia lost. Yes it was her dream job, but was it really? I get being upset about the ending of that season of life, but it seemed like more than that. That there was something deeper.
I really did enjoy the romance between Hunter and Ophelia. The secrecy aspect wasn't my favorite, but I can kind of understand why they went that route. I was also a fan of their dedication. Yes Hunter's dedication to the sport might have been over the top, but it was what he needed to do at the time. Meanwhile Ophelia's creativity, and drive, to create these dresses was impressive.
When the fight/separation came, I was ready but I wasn't. That hurt. Seeing both of them heartbroken was difficult. The journey to the reunion though? LOVED IT!
Brittany knocked it out of the park with this one! When Ophelia's life is suddenly turned upside down, she feels the only place left to turn is to her brother's house in a small college town. Whom he shares with his 2 college best friends/baseball teammates. A total 180 from her busy New York life she just got ripped away from. Her goal is to stay long enough to get a job back in fashion design in the city of her dreams. The first night there she meets Hunter, and things definitely started off on the wrong foot between them, but the attraction and tension was there immediately. Hunter has one thing on his mind. Baseball. His plan is to go pro and nothing will stop him. He's worked so hard for this. But then, his best friend's mysterious sister shows up needing a place to stay until she gets her on her feet. She's a force to be reckoned with. And he can't seem to keep away from her! This story started out fast and it continued. I could feel the burn and the sexual tension and 🥵🥵🥵. And when Hunter and Ophelia finally hit that first homerun... I had to drown myself in water to cool off! 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ophelia’s new roommate is a hot baseball player who happens to be her brother’s teammate she accidentally attacks her first night in town. She then accidentally sees him naked when she goes to shower in what was supposed to her her own private bathroom. This stay is supposed to be temporary, just a place to stay while she gets back on her feet.
Then there’s Hunter, the recently freed, baseball-obsessed pitcher hoping to get drafted to the majors, who needs no distractions but gets a great one. The distraction ends up being his teammate's sister whose the new roommate.
The Wrong Pitch is a spicy roommate, enemies-to-lovers college sports romance. It is a complete standalone. Thank you @greyspromo and @authorbrittanytaylor
In this book, the first in an upcoming series, we meet Ophelia- the fashion designer whose life is a wreck, and Hunter- the ball player with aspirations of the major leagues. They’re forced into living together because Hunter is Ophelia’s brothers roommate.
We follow them both throughout the story and watch them and their relationship grow.
Brittany Taylor manages to create a world where the characters, their choices and their relationship feels real and believable. Her writing makes you root for and feel for the main characters.
With a plot twist I didn’t see coming, clear to the last page, I was totally invested in Hunter and Ophelia’s story and HAD to see how it ended. Now, I can’t wait for the next book to release!
What a meet cute for Ophelia and Hunter! And the second time they met! I couldn’t stop giggling! These two main characters just could not stay away from each other even though it seemed they did not like each other. There is so much drama in their lives that could derail them. To be honest, Ophelia drives me a bit crazy as she is so quick to blame sometimes, but overall, I found the story fun and entertaining.
I received a free advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my fair and honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this romance by a new-to-me-author.
"Hunter has pulled out the part of my body that vibrates to life whenever he's nearby."
Ophelia Reynolds has just had the rug of her life pulled out from under her, which finds her going back to her hometown to temporarily live with her younger brother, who's a college baseball player. The move also brings Hunter Moore into her life, her brother's best friend/housemate/teammate. He's also the guy she took down in the street, in the middle of night on her first night. He was just out running and minding his own business, but she thought he was a possible assailant. Oof! That meet-cute wasn't so cute!
"The compulsion to pull her impossibly closer and slam her body against mine courses through me."
Hunter is now wholly focused on his baseball career, after extricating himself from an obligation that was not of his choosing. From the moment he meets Ophelia, he knows that she could be a distraction he doesn't need. However, there is no denying the magnetic pull between them, no matter how hard he tries to pretend that she doesn't exist.
"I won't break you...I don't think you understand that power you have over me...If I have the power to break you, it means you could break me, too."
I really liked the main characters in this book. They were both focused, career-orientated, and determined to make their dreams come true. They'd never made allowances for the fact that they might find love along the way. Hunter blew hot and cold until he couldn't deny what he wanted anymore. The sparks between them burned bright, making for some pretty hot scenes! 🔥🔥 The tension between them was thrilling. My heart broke for them when a painful revelation was made, and I really wanted to give Ophelia a shake for the unfairness of it all. However, I loved the reconciliation and the ending melted me. I'm definitely up for the next book.
All Ophelia wants to do is be a designer and when her internship is taken away because the company is folding and then finds out her roommate left and she's being evicted she turns to her brother Reed for a place to stay. Having to leave NY and go back to Eden, Maine was not what she ever saw happening but at least she could count on him.
Hunter Moore doesn't want to be a part of the family business and doesn't want to take the calls all the time from his brother asking for help with it. So he ends up selling his percentage that his mom left him to his brother, now he can work toward what he wants to do. He's the star pitcher for the Northeast Rebels, finishing this year out in college and hopefully going pro and playing baseball for Boston is his dream.
Hunter is also Reed's roommate and his first encounter with Ophelia was not a good one when she thought he was going to attack her as she's walking down a dark street and she ends up tackling him. Their relationship starts off rocky but the more time they spend around each other the closer they get even falling in love.
When certain things come to light, Ophelia is broken and ends up leaving. Will this be the end of them? Will either find their dreams or happiness?
4 stars It was a good story. What I had problems with was the wrong terminology used for baseball. This was also a new author for me.
When Ophelia suddenly loses her paid internship and her apartment at the same time, she has no choice but to move back to her hometown and live with her younger brother. She doesn’t plan to stay long but finding a new internship back in New York is a lot harder than she thought. The longer she stays, the more interactions she has with her new roommate Hunter. As much as she tries to keep her distance, she can’t deny the attraction that they both have for each other.
Hunter tries so hard to stay away from Ophelia because he knows that she will be a distraction. Most of the book is about them both trying to deny their feelings for each other but once they do admit their feelings you can tell how much they really care for one another. Hunter tries so hard to not care but he’s so sweet and cares a lot more than it seems. They both have gone through a lot and it takes them a while to open up to each other. I’m so glad they were able to work through their differences to finally be together.
Opposites attract Brothers best friend Roommates Forced proximity Sports Enemies to lovers College romance
The Wrong Pitch is the first book in the Northeast Rebels series.
This started off with an instant palpable connection, chemistry, and tension between our two MC’s. I loved that Ophelia had sass and was able to defend herself. The constant push and pull between them building that slow burn and when they finally did act on those feelings it was kept hidden. The twist and obstacles that they had to overcome setup for a great ending.
“I’m fairly certain you weren’t playing by the rules that day.”
I received an ARC copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.
This is the first book I've ever read by Brittany Taylor, and I was really impressed by her writing style and storytelling. This brother's best friend/forced proximity/enemies-to-lovers/sports romance was really well-written, and I really enjoyed Hunter and Ophelia's story. I loved their sarcastic banter, and it actually gave me all the feels. I would definitely recommend it!
The Wrong pitch is a sports romance, enemies to lovers. Ophelia and Hunter don’t have the best start, but things change. Hunter is on the same team as Ophelia’s brother, and also one of her new roommates. Even though they try to keep their distance, the attraction is too strong to keep them apart. This was a fun read, the way both characters try to fight each other and the attraction, at which they fail miserably, they know what they want in life. Hunter wants to become a pro baseball player, and Ophelia wants to make it as a designer. I loved it and looking forward to the next book in the series.
This book had some of my favorite tropes! Sports, brother’s friend, close proximity…you know, all the good stuff! Hunter and Ophelia’s story had the perfect amount of angst, mystery and all the amazing smexy times (I’m taking fan facing HOT!) oh, and a super sweet HEA. I loved spending a raining weekend cozied up reading this book.
Ohh i absolutely Loved Ophelia and Hunter! Their chemistry is so good! When Ophelia loses her job and then her apartment... Big brother comes to the rescue! Only... With the big brother, comes Hunter... And then secrets start 😬 I couldn't get enough of this book, i read it all in one sitting, and loved everything about it. Brittany absolutely smashed it 🙌
I truly enjoyed reading this story. I loved the attraction and chemistry between Ophelia and Hunter. They each have a dream and will do anything to achieve it... And nothing or no one will get in their ways... But they have a habit of getting in each other's way. The initial attraction is not good, pushing each other's buttons in the wrong way. As luck would have it for us, that changes. Without giving away too much, there are some obstacles that get in their way, happily they find their way back to each other. This enemies to friends romance checks all the boxes. I can't wait to read what comes next in the series.
I am honestly heated right now… I love the enemies to lovers trope, but there was barely a transition in this book! it’s like all of a sudden even though they’ve spent like 2 seconds together, he’s obsessed with her and I honestly didn’t feel like they had a connection. I enjoyed it, up until the dreaded 3rd act breakup… WTF WAS THAT??!! the stupidest excuse to break up- his family company cut funding to the company she worked for that she got laid off from, but he didn’t know who she was at all and honestly it seemed like she was taken advantage of at her old job in New York anyway. how the freak was he supposed to know that his decision to focus on baseball would get her laid off??? like he doesn’t know shit about running a company and all of a sudden he’s the enemy because he signed a paper that he honestly didn’t understand?
honestly screw her! she can’t be mad at him for that! he didn’t even know her so it’s not like it’s malicious of him! and he didn’t know that his signature really meant that people would lose their jobs. she needs to grow the eff up and put on her big girl pants instead of being a huge drama queen and ending a relationship with someone she loves. so stupid. I honestly want to slap her out of it!
I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn’t get past that part! 🤷🏼♀️
With her dreams of fashion design in New York shattering into pieces, Ophelia moved back to her hometown of Eden, Maine, to live with her brother, Reed, and two of his teammates on the Northeast Rebels, Hunter and Dawson. Hunter Moore, the impossibly gorgeous star pitcher for the Rebels, lived and breathed baseball, his dedication reaching the point of obsession. Free from the obligations of his family's business, he was finally able to concentrate all of his focus on baseball and his dream of going pro and getting drafted by the Boston Revolutionaries. He wouldn't allow any distractions to stand in his way.
Hunter and Ophelia first met when she tackled him on a dark street and then again naked in the shower. They tried to avoid each other, seemingly not even wanting to be in the same room. Yet the attraction between them sparked instantly with a strong magnetic pull drawing them together, every interaction raising the heat higher in true enemies to lovers style. But with Hunter and Reed being best friends and teammates, as well as roommates with Reed's sister, any relationship between Hunter and Ophelia seemed unlikely to work.
"If you’re going to come into my room without my permission . . . make sure you have a good reason for it."
I loved how Hunter and Ophelia challenged each other, pushing their limits and boundaries. Ophelia broke down Hunter's walls, exposing his vulnerabilities, getting him to open up and share parts of his life with her that he never did with anyone else. And she felt things with him that she never felt before. Their connection was so powerful and all-consuming that it was as if his intense green eyes saw straight into her soul. But even with shared passions, they had different dreams, inevitably creating conflicts and doubts with the future unknown.
"I don’t think you understand the power you have over me, Ophelia. If I have the power to break you, it means you could break me, too."
I absolutely loved the two of them together and the steam never let up. Hunter was the deliciously sexy ball player and Ophelia was the woman who could bring him to his knees. I just loved watching him come undone with her. My heart broke every time something came between them and I held my breath waiting to see how they would push through.
Ultimately, this was a story about regrets and forgiveness, along with the sacrifices you make to reach your dreams. What would you give up to achieve your goals? What would you give up for love? What happens when you hurt the one you love? Do we always have a choice?
"You crashed into my world, and it changed everything for me."
The Wrong Pitch was the perfect start to the Northeast Rebels series and I loved watching it unfold. I would have liked to see the resolution after the third act break a little more drawn out but this was such a beautiful story nevertheless. I enjoyed meeting Reed and Dawson as well as Ophelia's best friend, Claire. Family dynamics introduced some interesting twists to the story with a few surprising complications. I loved seeing how the Rebels teammates had each other's backs on and off the field and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next for these boys.
"Your wrong move led me to you. You were the dream I didn’t know I wanted until I had it."
** Special thanks to author Brittany Taylor for sending me this ARC to read and review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. Quotes subject to change at time of publication. Available March 24, 2023. **
Ophelia Reynolds is headed back to her hometown of Eden, Maine after she loses the apartment she is living in as well as her internship due to layoffs by the new owner, Andrew Turner. Now she needs to figure out her life and what she really wants to do while living with her brother and his two roommates.
Hunter Moore is a pitcher for the Northeast Rebels and is back on top of his game after finally getting his private life in order. He knows that he wants a life in baseball and is working hard to get drafted and find a team and doesn’t have time for anyone to interfere with his goals.
Yet when Hunter and Ophelia sparks fly and not necessarily in the right way. Yet they gradually discover how much chemistry they have but will their respective goals and lives mesh up when it counts the most?
This was a great read and I really enjoyed it from start to finish.
My heart broke for Ophelia as she gave up everything for her great internship at Travis Sterling Designs and then she lost it when the company was bought out and they laid off people. She knew what she wanted to do but now had to begin again in another town with not a lot to show for herself.
Hunter was much more of a complex character as you knew that he was involved in something with his brother but you never really knew what it was until much later on in the book. This left a few gaps for me as I never knew why he was so angry with everything that was going on.
This was definitely a book where they go from enemies to lovers and then everything falls apart but it was a good journey. There were a lot of laughs and I liked seeing how much Ophelia ended up growing from everything that had gone wrong into someone who really began to believe in herself.
I was surprised by the twist a little bit as I knew there had to be something that had everything come together in a climatic way. I was a little surprised the way Ophelia handled things and never let Hunter say anything.
I was very grateful for Reed at the end of the book and how he made everyone happy again! Hopefully we get his story next!- Rebecca
TROPES: -Sport romance (baseball) -Hate to love -Brother's best friend -Forced Proximity -Roomies to lovers -College
Having read Ms.Taylor's work a couple of times before i always look forward to picking up another book of hers. As soon as this one was announced it caught my eye right away and i knew i had to read it next! Baseball is my favorite sport so that had me even more excited to pick it up. I got right into the Northeast Rebels world! I so enjoyed this story!
Ophelia and Hunter's journey captured my attention right from the very get go! After having her world shaken up, Ophelia is back in her hometown to stay with her brother. That's when she has quite the memorable run in with Hunter, her brother Reed's roommate and the pitcher for the Northeast Rebels baseball team and now her roommate. Can these two go their own ways? or can their attraction lead to a homerun for them? or a strike out?
I really liked how quickly i was pulled in by Ophelia and Hunter and the different way these two were brought into each other's lives. I was glad that i got to dig into both of their minds. There was realness to both Ophelia and Hunter. I wasn't sure how they'd tackle living together, things in their lives, their dreams, and of course, their feelings for one another. I enjoyed the love Ophelia had for designing and Hunter for baseball. I related to both of them and admired them.
I so enjoyed the forced proximity, brother's best friend, and baseball aspects of this story! It was fun getting into the Northeast Rebels world for the first time and getting to meet these characters.
With The Wrong Pitch, Ms.Taylor has created such a good sports romance with so many feels and steam that kept me turning the pages! I am so looking forward to more from this author and this world! 💚
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Grey's Promotions / the author*
Miss Brittany, YOU DID IT AGAIN. You gave me higher expectations of love and I’m HERE 👏🏻 FOR 👏🏻 IT 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 (my husband however is not 😂) I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. 3 of my FAVORITE things: 1.) BASEBALL ⚾️ (and baseball pants) 2.) Sports Romance ❤️ 3.) 🌶️ Spice 🌶️ And The Wrong Pitch by Brittany Taylor has ALL OF THAT along with the Siblings Best Friend trope that I’m a SUCKER for. So, my girl Ophelia, she’s an intern in New York, sketching dresses for a major Fashion Designer named Travis. Big wahooo happened, Opie gets laid off. She moves back to her home town to live with her little brother Reed, and let me tell you what, WE LOVE HIM. (We love an understanding brother) and his roommates. Well, Ophelia being that girl, she sees a dude running toward her on her walk to her new house, and TACKLES this man. Turns out, this man is HUNTER MOORE! Her new roommate 😂 Hunter Moore, has now been added to my list of book boyfriends. Hunter is the star pitcher for their College Team, and he wants no distractions. Hate to break it to you, the minute Ophelia came literally BARRELING in to your life, that was over. I feel so much for Ophelia, the self doubt after losing her job had ME in tears because baby you are good enough! And Hunter, the growth of my boy Hunter?! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Joining these two on their journey to getting their hopes and dreams, the realization of how Ophelia lost hers, the moment of them coming back together, THE SECOND WAVE HUNTER?! This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotions, screaming at a book with my husband looking at me like I’m nuts and my kids asking “what did hunter do now?” 10/10. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ This one will forever have a place on my shelf!
