Soulbound #7

A Veiled & Hallowed Eve

Rate this book
Death is the last lover you will ever know.

SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins has lived a life full of lies, and it has finally caught up with him. There’s no denying his past any longer, not after giving up the truth to save himself from a murder charge. But truth alone can’t set Patrick free, and time is running out to stop the Dominion Sect from turning his father into a god.

Jonothon de Vere knows survival isn’t a guarantee, but he’s desperate to keep Patrick safe, even as hope slips through his fingers. With the future unknown, Jono will follow Patrick wherever he goes, even to Salem, where a family reunion reveals a bitter secret that was never going to stay buried.

With New York City under control of their god pack, Patrick and Jono must fall back on every alliance they’ve brokered to fill the front lines of a war coming directly to the city streets. The veil is always thinnest on Samhain, and what awaits them on the other side is the stuff of nightmares. For when it tears, all hell will break loose, and the gods will be summoned to face a reckoning the world isn’t ready for.

The stakes have never been higher, failure has never been so deadly, and the Fates have never been kind to heroes. Patrick knows that better than anyone—because everything has a price, every debt always comes due, and it’s finally time for Patrick to pay his.

Soulbound has never missed a beat, not for a single book, and this was the way you end a stellar series! I so love each and every single member of our Pack and while I'm sad for the end of their stories, I'm happy they all made it to the ending they deserved.

This book warrants a much better review than I'm able to give it right now, but it was cover to cover every single thing I could have asked for. Except maybe a tiny little bit less heartfail. 🤏🏻

Also, I think Wade should have gotten to eat the Dominion Sect but I guess on the whole, strawberry poptarts are better for him. 💜 *gives Wade another case*

I look forward to everything and anything Hailey Turner will write. 🥰

I finished A Veiled & Hallowed Eve a few days ago and have struggled to find the right words to express just how incredible this journey was for me. And it’s a journey—the most epic adventure of all time. I am not going to be plot specific here because I’d never want to spoil the book for anyone.

Breathless. The final installment in the Soulbound series has left me breathless. The high emotions, though expected, still managed to catch me off guard and leave me speechless. It was a never-ending roller coaster that kept me enthralled from start to finish. I never wanted it to end. Storytellers like Hailey Turner are a rare breed, and I so deeply admire her talent. She not only wows me with her ability to write action, mythology, and lore, but the emotional charge in every scene was just a whole new level of amazing. Rarely does a book affect me so deeply. And that ending… What a treasure this series and this author is to the literary community. I cannot wait for the audio.

***5 Stars for both, audiobook and story***

August 2018:

Favorite author: I have a new series coming up... Do you want an ARC?
Me: Hell yessssss!!!
Favorite author: Pretty accurate, it's urban fantasy.
Me: *scrunching up nose* Uhm....
Favorite author: It has a tortured hero...
Me: Oh? *ears perking up*
Favorite author: ... and explosions...
Me: I'll do it!

October 2021:

Seven books later and I regret nothin'! (except maybe that I don't do ARCs anymore, so I didn't get it sooner) Talk about an epic finale...

If there's one thing this series taught me, it's that there are more gods out there than I care for (and this book felt like a test at school to check if I remember all their names because they all made a reappearance here and I'm pretty sure Hailey Turner didn't leave a single one of them out), but it's still a unique world she created and I'll miss it terribly.

I came for the action and stayed for the romance. Yes, the ending turned out to be the breathtaking showdown the whole series built up to, but it was Jono's and Patrick's (soul-)bond and how far they have come, that grabbed me. Jono, Patrick and the pop tarts munching cookie monster dragon fledgling that is Wade will always have a special place in my heart. ❤️

Astonishing!!!!

This book was incredible, I could put down, well... I had to put down to sleep, but I had to fight the urge to pick it up, the story was great, the conventions, heartbreaking moments, the actions scenes were superb, the whole mythology of this world was fascinating, the characters are amazing, all of them, congratulations to Hailey Turner for this spectacular journey!!!

I also have this book on audible, Gary Furlong is definitely one of my favourite narrators, the voice was gorgeous, the acting on point, all the sentences were with the right meaning, and I absolutely adore his ability to create many different voices for the characters, the performance was squeezed!!! Hight praises to him!!!

Reread/Relisten #4 June 2024

I still can't get over how Hailey Turner weaved all the Gods and their stories together and make this masterpiece of a series.

I can't wait for September now!

Reread/Relisten #3 February 2024

This series will always be my favorite series. I cannot wait to read and listen to Wades book, that will really bring this whole series together!

Yes, you will see me reread/relisten to these books one more time before September!

Reread/Relisten #2 September 2023

This series will always be one of my all-time favorites. Now I can't wait to read Spencer and Takoma's book!!

Reread/Relisten #1 January 2023

No words to say how incredible this series is. The way that everything is put together blows my mind, and i loved every minute of this.

Now I can't wait for September of this year for Spencers book!! that will be a ride, hopefully we get to see Jono, Patrick, Wade, and Sage in that book even for a brief moment.

5 “I’ll come back” stars!!! October 2021

Holy shit. There are no words. The ending of this incredible series was well worth the wait. The fact that the audiobook dropped too was icing on the cake.

This was nonstop action and I couldn’t put it down even if you paid me.

I will miss my favorite God Pack, Lucian’s Night Court and all of the mischievous, meddlesome gods.

Now what to do with my life haha I can’t believe I started this series this year and read it 3 times through. You best believe I will be reading this more in the future!

If you haven’t picked up this series then what are you waiting for?!

Now have to wait until March of next year for the new series. Hailey Turner is 100% 1 click author for me!

I'm bereft. I can't believe I've just read the final book of Patrick and Jono's epic story.

There will be no spoilers here, only a summation that Hailey works magic with how she weaves the multitude of deities and immortals from so many pantheons together.

I have loved every minute of this journey, my love of mythology having every one of its nerdy desires met by this series.

Patrick and Jono as a pairing couldn't be more perfect for each other. The prickly mage and his laid back Londoner werewolf bring out all the best parts of each other.

Even when they're tested almost beyond endurance, their love holds strong, irrespective of the soulbond between them.

My heart was racing from the moment I started reading until the very last page and I had so many different guesses for how the final battle would go.

But nothing prepared me for the reality of this book, nothing!

It brought all the feels, the fears, the hurt, I nearly sobbed, not gonna lie and I raged at the casualness of the gods as they pulled strings and manipulated people like pieces on a chessboard.

A Veiled and Hallowed Eve pulls all the threads which have been so skillfully weaved from book one and wraps them into a conclusion which is almost cathartic.

I won't forget these books and the amazing world Hailey has created with some of our most enduring and endearing deities and with some of the lesser known ones.

Perhaps all they need is for people to remember...

Noooooo!! I am not ready to say goodbye to this series, but what a conclusion! The previous 6 books have lead up to this final battle, and it’s epic. Patrick, Jono and the rest of their pack, along with some help, are battling for their lives. There is also a surprise or two along the way.

Hailey Turner is an amazing storyteller, and sucked me into this series from book 1. I am not a huge PNR reader, but I fell in love with Patrick and Jono’s battle to be able to live their own lives on their own terms. Of course, I also fell in love with Wade, the snarky teenager (?) who had a compulsive appetite (for a reason). I wish this series could go on, but it did end perfectly.

I did listen to all 7 audiobooks, and I can’t recommend them enough. Gary Furlong is amazing with his distinct voices for each character, especially Jono swoon!!!

I’m a little sad, but the good thing about books, you can always go back and read/listen to them again and again. I can see myself starting book 1 very soon.

Since you've all made it to book 7, you know the type of story you're in for, so I'll skip the usual review for a Q and A

Background: This is it. The final showdown between Patrick and his father, Ethan.

Q: Is my favorite character in this one? I really liked-
A: Yes

Q: But you didn't let me finish
A: EVERYONE is in this. It's the book of a million cameos.

Q: Is there any character development?
A: Character dev..elop…?

Q: I mean, does Patrick finally learn to stop sacrificing himself for others?
A: Next question

Q: I really want a book that's like 50% battles with tons of characters using all their powers
A: I have good news

Q: In previous books I got annoyed about the constant 'I've got your six' line. Any recurring line in this one?
A: The veil tears, tearing the veil, the veil is tearing, the veil tore…

Q: I have always wondered if dragons can fly faster than a jet plane, will this book clarify that?
A: Yes.

Q: Look, life is stressful. I just need to know that there's an HEA.
A:

Q: In the very first book, Patrick got called in and missed his Maui vacation. He brings this up periodically. Any chance he'll finally get to go?

I am so happy and satisfied with that ending. This whole universe has been a bit of an unexpected experience for me that I well and truly barreled head first into given that I’ve listened to something like 75 hours of audiobook (2700 pages) over like 10 days (if I realised it was going to be such a hyperfixation I would have timed it for a holiday 😂). This is the second of Turners multi-part fantasy epics I’ve read so, while nervous about how the ending would come together, I had trust that she would finish the story in a way that was satisfying and I’m glad that faith wasn’t misplaced.

I am giving this book 5 stars but I will be transparent in that the book itself probably was a 4 star read but I’m giving it the extra star for my enjoyment of the series as a whole as well the vibes which were always the sort of fun that comes with an easily consumable action/adventure.

Considering the scope of the war that was required to bring this series to a close I’m really impressed at how Turner was able to navigate it without it getting too bogged down, but there’s no escaping that a large part of this book was battles. Sometimes I found myself just wanting a quiet moment from all the chaos. But I can barely imagine how intimidating tackling writing the end of this story would have been.

I would say that if you fell into the camp of book one being too many characters for you then this might just not be the series for you cause this book was like that dialed to 11 (given that it bought all the alliances and villains from previous books back into the war). There is a glossary which can be helpful and I think if you have a reasonable knowledge of various mythologies it helps too cause there’s a degree of familiarity with a large number of characters when they’re introduced.

And in relation to that, Gary Furlong did a phenomenal job narrating this series. The amount of talent he has to manage to give unique voices and personalities to such a wide cast of characters on his own is a shocking talent and I think it enriched the reading experience significantly.

I’m not sure what to do with myself now I don’t have this to occupy my every spare minute. All I know is that I will forever carry Jono and Patrick as one of my favourite fictional couples (I adore a couple that is straight up ride or die for each other) and I feel such joy that they got their HEA.

Feeling blessed to have Spencer’s story and Wades story as spinoffs to read at some point too so that I don’t have to completely give up this universe just yet

I have tried to write this review time and time again, only to come up empty on all I want to say. This series is something else. The level of detail and craft devoted to it amazes me, especially after reading this final book. All the earlier threads came together, and my questions lingering from previous books were answered.

More importantly, seeing the relationships between characters reach their maturity and show just how much growth everyone has (or hasn't) gone through was the heart of this book. Yes, the relationship between Jono and Patrick was as passionate and fiery as ever, but this was about so much more than that. This book was about finding and creating families, of knowing what sacrifices were and weren't acceptable, and about drawing the lines necessary to ensure everyone was safe and loved in the ways they needed. It gave catharsis for everything that's happened so far, and I couldn't stop smiling after I finished it.

Brava, Hailey, brava. A beautiful, complicated ending for a fantastic series!

Don't know how I'm feeling now that Soulbound is finished. Always a strange situation to be at the end of a series I'm grown to love, especially if that end was fulfilling and all the open strings and questions got closed, if I met all the characters I wanted to meet again before the end and the main characters still had room for development and their relation to grow. The last book of Soulbound is all of that and more.

It's mourning, grief and guilt. It's epic, Marvel-esk action and an overwhelming battleground. It's about errors, sacrifices and survival. It's unexpected relations, closure and sass. It's about friendship and family in all their difficult variations and it's about love, unconditional love, steady against all odds or in Jono's words:

Family was what you made of it, all the ragged bits of an untamed whole, fit together to lean on in times of joy and times of need. And love? Love was living, in all its many ways

"The end begins. Can you not feel it?"

I'm not okay :D The Soulbound series has been a part of my life since October 2018 when I first read A Ferry of Bones & Gold. It had its (mostly) ups and (only one, really) downs throughout the years, but it has overall warmed my heart and brought me joy with each passing installment. I was so excited to finally reach the ending, but also sad to say goodbye to Patrick and Jono and the trouble that followed them.

A Veiled & Hallowed Eve was everything I could have asked for as the final book to the series. All the build up and tension finally tipped over and it was such an incredible experience for me to read about all the threads and figures mentioned in the previous book come together in this one. It was a battle of epic proportions and Turner did a fantastic job with it!

I really have no words to describe all the action that happened in this book. I was holding my breath through great part of it and I loved that Turner actually gave us so many! battle scenes. This was very much what we had all been waiting for and it was worth every minute of it. The stakes were so high and the fast pace and dynamic between characters as they fought together--or against each other--was so cool sdlfjslf

The way the plot developed and how certain revelations came about was also really well done. Everything regarding Ethan and Hannah and Patrick's soul debt was executed beyond my expectations and I personally loved how it all was resolved; even though it hurt me emotionally! Turner delivered what was promised when it came to that and I was pretty satisfied with that ending.

My one tiny complaint was that 2 decisions Patrick made in this book made me really frustrated with him? They didn't feel that organic, but I did understand why they happened.

And Patrick and Jono and their love :'D Their relationship has always made me feel all the fuzzy feelings and there was quite a big revelation for Patrick about that in this book. I loved it and I loved that they got to have their happy ending after everything. This was an incredible series and I'll definitely come back to it to reread <3

Series: #7 and final in the Soulbound series.
POV: Told from Patrick and Jono's POVs.
Content Warnings:
Steam: a few steamy scenes here and there.
Cliffhanger: No.

Even better on the re-read. And I cried. Again.

___________________

I think I need a month, at least, to get over how heartwrenching and bittersweet and beautiful this final book is. It's going to be a tough book to re-read in the future, though I'll certainly do it as soon as I don't feel like crying my eyes out.

"A Veiled & Hallowed Eve" was everything I was hoping for and everything I knew Hailey Turner would deliver.
Every single book in this series has such a distinctive vibe and atmosphere and this one is no exception: it's dark and bitter and epic, in a way only a truly great series can be, one that has an imposing and wholly impressive world-building and one whose author is a truly masterful storyteller.
Hailey Turner has a way with words and she made me cry and shiver and gasp and smile countless times during the two days I needed to finish this thrilling final book.

War with Ethan and his Dominion Sect has finally arrived and all the gods of Heaven and Hell of all Pantheons, all of Patrick and Jono's hard-won allies, all of the weapons they've managed to gather during the last few months in their lives, are finally in the mix and clamouring for an end, one way or another.

I absolutely loved every single word of this book, even when some chapters made me want to cry in frustration and made my heart clench in melancholy and bittersweet feelings, knowing the end was near. It's a book packed with action, from the beginning to the end, and it never lets off: I found myself so immersed in the story I actually could feel I was with Patrick and Jono, fighting and bleeding and never giving up.

The ending was perfect, tinged with sadness and heart-ache, but also furious hope and love and fierce pride. And the epilogue? Only one more thing could have made even more perfect (okay, maybe a couple of things more, but I will stave off my greed: fanfiction and daydreams are definitely an option for that), but I'll be happy with what we got: it left me teary-eyed and happy and satisfied, with enough open ends to let myself imagine some of the adventures these characters could go through in the future.

Patrick Collins, it was a pleasure to follow your story.
He'll remain one of my favourite protagonists of all time, all snark and damage and hope and stubborness, and he and Jono will stay one of my most cherished literary couples.
I'll be re-reading this series as soon as my heart stops feeling like it's breaking.
Brava, Hailey Turner.

Short review - Brilliant.

Slightly longer review - Reading this, the final book in this wonderful series was a mixed experience for me. The book itself was everything I’d hoped for. But it’s the last book and it’s going to be hard not spending time with Patrick, Jono, Wade aka the God of Snacks and the rest of the amazing characters.
What am I going to do now I’m not eagerly awaiting the next book?
So I’m struggling a little coming to terms with that but like I said this book didn’t disappoint. It was non stop from start to finish.

I adore all these characters but Wade is my favourite.

“Yeah, yeah. Shift mass, don’t shift mass. Eat demons, don’t eat demons. You’re carrying my mouthwash next time we fight like this.”

So this was a great end to this fabulous series.

My second re-read/ re-listen of this book (after 3 years) and it still blows me away with how GOOD it is.

5-stars!

*******************************************************

Now this, THIS is how you end a series that has not dropped the ball and only gotten better over 7 distinct but equally strong instalments.

This book was page, after page, after page of riveting, blood-pumping action, and clashes between all our factions that even at the very end, I could not possibly predict how everything would go down.

You know how sometimes you read a book series that sets up an ultimate battle or ultimate reckoning and everything just falls flat or leaves you unfulfilled? There was none of such here. Even when I wanted to fling my iPad at the wall or hide my face from the sheer amount of THINGS the pack endured in this, I was thoroughly satisfied at the end.

And since this is a mandated spoiler-free review, just know that whatever ending Patrick, Jono and the god pack achieved was hard earned, hard-fought over and very well deserved.

If you are a fan of this series, fret not, this will make you happy (eventually in the end Lol) and if this review made you curious about starting this series, do NOT hesitate. It would be very worth your while.

NB: I just have ONE request even with such a satisfying ending (And I'm sure if you've read this series you'd be with me) I would LOVE to get my hands on Wade's book. My darling needs his book and I'm willing to pay anything to read it. Please make it happen Hailey! Pretty Please!

This is probably going to be the most difficult review I've ever written, I'm going to try to keep it coherent while still being spoiler free and keeping myself together as get sad at one of my all time favorite series coming to an end.

This book was a nonstop adventure. There is just action coming at you from all sides from the time you start until the very end. I definitely cried MULTIPLE times (this is not a spoiler, this is a Hailey guarantee™️), laughed some (thank you Wade for being the teenage dragon we all need), swooned always (JONO 💕), and just enjoyed myself immensely for the whole story. Hailey is one of the best writers around and she has truly outdone herself with this series and especially this finale. All the questions are answered, the ending is everything I could've hoped for, and one of the best couples around FINALLY get to ride off into the sunset for their HEA.

If you haven't picked up this series, do it. It's so worth the ride.

I loved it! Hands down, it was all that I wanted it to be! All the loose ends were tied and Jono and Patrick got their HEA. The road was a whole lot thornier this time but they made it! What an adventure this series has been! I am a little sad I have to say goodbye to my favorite snack eater Wade and Sage the best dire, but most of all I will miss Patrick and Jono's shenanigans and their love. I enjoyed the magic, the intrigue and the mystery that were the Gods. Unputdownable! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review.

I've given this an A for narration and an A- for content at AudioGals.

It’s always sad when a long-running series comes to an end, so listening to A Veiled and Hallowed Eve, the seventh and final instalment in Hailey Turner’s Soulbound series was a bittersweet experience. I’ve been looking forward to the conclusion of this inventive and epic story, the big showdown between our heroes and their mortal enemies, but reaching The End also means saying goodbye to Patrick, Jono, Wade and all the other characters who’ve been with them on their amazing journey. It’s hard to think there will be no more books about them – but I have seven superb stories and audiobooks to re-listen to, thanks to this talented author/narrator duo.

I’ve said this before but it probably bears repeating: the books in this series need to be listened to in order so as to fully understand the complex storylines and the development of the various characters and their relationships, so if you’ve not been following the series, then this review will likely make very little sense to you. It’s also impossible to review this book without some reference to the previous ones, so there are spoilers ahead.

Now that the tensions between the rival New York godpacks have been successfully dealt with (see  An Echo in the Sorrow ), Patrick and Jono are free to focus on the confrontation that looms with the Dominion Sect – an alliance of gods, demons, fae and a whole host of evil supernatural beings which is led by Patrick’s father, Ethan Greene. A Veiled and Hallowed Eve is one of those stories that just doesn’t let up – so once you start, be prepared to want to do longer car journeys or extra housework or find extra listening time however you can, because you really won’t want to be interrupted!

With the veil between worlds getting thinner as Samhain approaches, Patrick and Jono know that it’s only a matter of days before Ethan makes his final push for godhead and unleashes chaos like the world has never seen. Survival isn’t guaranteed – pretty much nothing is – but before the final battle, Patrick decides to take the time to reconnect with the family he hasn’t seen since he was eight years old. They had no idea he was alive until he had to reveal his true identity to beat a murder charge, and he and Jono travel to Salem for a bittersweet reunion. While everyone is clearly pleased to see him and welcomes him with open arms, Patrick is stunned – and deeply hurt – by something else he learns that rocks him to the core.

The poor guy never seems to get a break! (And there’s worse to come.)

It’s really hard to write an effective summary of the plot in this book, because there’s so much going on as Patrick and Jono prepare for the battle of their lives, calling in every favour and on every alliance they’ve ever made to line up against the evil forces ranged against them. And even then, with the array of gods and fae, night courts and god packs on their side… it still might not be enough.

The battle itself is … to call it “epic” doesn’t seem enough, but I’ll go with it for want of a better term! Hailey Turner is unsurpassed when it comes to choreographing the most amazing, detailed battle scenes that are so vividly drawn and brilliantly orchestrated that they play out like a movie in your head. I loved seeing the many characters – allies and villains – from previous stories coming into play here; I admit that it felt a bit like a “who’s who” of Soulbound, but I honestly didn’t care. Their appearances provide lots of moments of recognition for those of us who’ve been with the series since the beginning, and it’s a testament to the author’s skill that she’d laid the groundwork for each and every one of them and they all have important roles to play in the grand scheme of things. (One very small niggle; there is a LOT of battle in this book, and impressive though it is, there are places it could perhaps have done with a little trimming.)

But amid all the chaos and fighting, the author doesn’t lose sight of the personal stories she’s been developing. Patrick has come a long way from the man he was when we first met him, world-weary, closed off and completely self-sufficient, carrying – it seemed – the weight of the world on his shoulders, and I love that part of his journey has been about finding his people and the family of his heart. Jono has been his rock, someone he’s been able to rely on and trust to have his back no matter what. They’ve had their ups and downs, but they’re a solid couple, very much in love and so very good for each other. There are, of course, some utterly gut wrenching moments in this story (*shakes fist at Hailey and Gary for making me cry!*) as Patrick is finally called upon to settle that long ago debt raised on his soul.

Special mention goes to everyone’s favourite teenaged Fire Dragon, Wade Espinoza, who has grown so much over the course of the series, his confidence increasing due to the affection and support of his pack. He’s devoted to Jono and Patrick and is going to do whatever he can to keep them safe, but he’s also still Wade the surly teen and devourer of Pop Tarts who continues to provide badly needed moments of humour.

I can think of very few – and we’re talking counting on the fingers of one hand here – narrators around who could have brought as much skill, enthusiasm, energy and heart to this series as Gary Furlong has. Technically, he’s superb, portraying an incredibly large cast of characters consistently from book to book, deploying a wide range of tone, timbre and accent to voice gods, demons, vampires, fae, valkyries, heroes and villains, surly teenage dragons, cheeky winged messengers and all; his pacing is just right, his comic timing is spot on and there is just nothing about his performance here that doesn’t work. He absolutely nails the personalities of the two leads, delivering nuanced portrayals which have really found the hearts and souls of these two men and which have grown in depth and complexity along with them. His interpretation of Patrick, in particular, is outstanding; Mr. Furlong has always captured the essence of him really well – his jaded snark, his grim determination, and his gradual transformation from loner to a man with people to care for and who care for him – but now Patrick’s personal shields have been ripped away – both literally and figuratively – all his long-hidden vulnerabilities are that much closer to the surface, and they’re all right there in his voice. Jono has always been the more even-tempered of the two, softly spoken and perhaps a little more laid back, but unmoving in his resolve to be there for Patrick no matter what, and the warmth and strength of their connection comes through in every interaction. And then… THAT scene (I’m not telling, but you’ll know when you get there) just about ripped my heart out.

Sorry as I am to see Patrick and Jono ride off into the sunset, if anyone has earned an HEA, it’s them.

The quality of the research, the creativity, the brilliantly developed characters and relationships, and the fact that Hailey Turner has maintained such a consistently high standard of writing and plotting throughout all seven books is incredibly impressive – Brava! Matched every step of the way by Gary Furlong’s amazing performances, Soulbound is one of my favourite series, and I know I’ll be returning to it often.

I inhaled this series.

Why? Well, obviously because this series is just that good.

The finale didn’t disappoint either. It was epic!

I mean, after six brilliant books I honestly didn’t expect anything less.

A well deserved happily ever after for Patrick, Jono and the god pack of New York City.

---

Little side note for anyone who’s interested: books 1, 2 and 6 were my favourites. Those three books stood out to me the most but I genuinely loved every single book of this series. Definitely a favourite one of mine which is why I’m putting this series on my all time favourites list.

Well, f*ck, this was a rollercoaster of emotions and I had all the feels from beginning to end!

How can I write a non-spoilery review? I want to say everything. Just know that this was like the ending of any avengers movie where they are all united to defeat the villains. It was action packed almost literally from beginning to those last perfect pages. They were perfect! The last chapter lives rent free in my brain and heart for eternity.

I'm soulbound to these characters; to my beloved Patrick whom I have adored since the first page, to Jono and his honest and raw love and loyalty, to Wade who may be childish for some things but touch his family and you will see his dragon rage, to Sage and Marek and their adorable relationship, to every single character, gods, goddesses, side characters, good and bad who made this story exactly the kind of series I already find myself rereading entirely every couple of months. As soon as the audiobook is out I will reread it and feel everything again but with the perfect narrator's voice that has filled many of my days.

The story is complex and unpredictable and I think Hailey Turner has created such an amazing world where her characters live and are happy, and I can't help but admire her completely. I will build her an altar near the books and she'll have my prayers for sure!!

It's so hard to say goodbye but I'm glad I was along these characters for the ride. I'll consider myself part of their pack from now until forever!

As expected, there was a lot of action in this one. I would suggest to take a break around 35%, coz after it just keeps rolling and there isn't really a resting point until the end.

Didn't get any surprises, maybe one, but that was a positive surprise. It's still a very suspenseful read.
This is what I would expect a 7-book-long story should end. Fast-paced, nerve-racking and everything was tied up nicely, no question left unanswered. It was a worthy ending.

So I see all these 5-Stars ratings and I think "What did I miss?"

Objectively I can see that this story is highly original, has solid world-building, likeable characters, an intricate and exciting plot and Hailey Turner is a solid writer. Solid, I say, not great. I don't like the way the army is glorified in her books and if I have to read "military-grade" one more time, I will tear my own skin off. But at least there is no cringey misunderstandings or cheesiness in the romance. Not that the romance has been a main focus in the series.

And this seventh and last volume brought everything neatly to an end. I am satisfied with the ending and I dare say I will even miss some of the characters (although there were times when I got bored and times when I did not really care how much they got tortured). And we get two love scenes in this book - that was quite the reward. So ... satisfied. But not over the top impressed. I guess the writing is just not something I really enjoy. And seeing all those reviews I guess I'm in the minority here. I kind of get it. It's a clear case of "It's me - not the book"

"It's going to be a bloodbath."

I've spent 3 years gobbling up every book in this 7 book series and we have officially reached an end to this amazing saga. This book is the culmination of everything we as readers have been waiting for. The final battle to protect the world is being fought, gods are meddling in affairs as usual, Wade is eating everything in sight, and of course Patrick and Jono are right in the thick of it. I held my breath on more than one occasion while reading this book. The battle is epic, lasting much of the book in all its bloody glory. I was riveted by every page, my eyes glued to my kindle.

This is the last book in the Soulbound series, and its namesake is still going strong. Patrick and Jono have been put through so much in these books, yet have also grown immensely individually and as a couple. Their relationship is stronger than ever, held together by so much more than just their soulbond. Patrick needs Jono to level him out, to hold him together when it seems like he may fly apart with everything weighing down on his shoulders. Jono is always there, showing Patrick he's not alone, that he will never be alone again. He has him and he has pack. That is something that will never change, regardless of the debt Patrick carries in his soul.

"Family was what you made of it, all the ragged bits of an untamed whole, fit together to lean on in times of joy and times of need."

Hailey Turner certainly did this series and its ending justice. I will miss these characters, especially everyone's favorite fledgling dragon. Though this is the end of Patrick's story, I hope we see more of Wade in the future. He's still a teen, but I'd love for him to get his own story once he grows up a bit. I also wouldn't say no to more of Lucien. The bad boys always get me and Lucien fits that mold to a T. I look forward to the next world created by this author. Bravo Miss Turner, you've most definitely got a fangirl in me.

Perfect ending. I was captivated by this series from the first book and my fascination only grew stronger with each installment. Outstanding world building, Patrick and Jono and their Soulbound, fleshed out secondary characters - special kudos to Sage and Wade, the pack, the adventure - I loved it all. But this last book managed to surpass my expectations. The mix of emotional moments and action kept me engaged from start to finish, familiar faces from previous books were a pleasant surprise and the way the main conflict was resolved was both unexpected and right.
Epilogue was perfect and though I will dearly miss Patrick, Jono and the pack, I'm happy with how it ended.

Oh wow, I am so very sad that this is the last story in this amazing series, but absolutely happy and satisfied with what a superb ending it was. We may have to go through all of the agony and fear the characters experience as they fight to keep the world from ending, but the author makes up for it with the absolutely wonderful way she ties it all up in the end. It was just perfect, absolutely perfect.

As I read A Veiled & Hallowed Eve, the final book in Hailey Turner's brilliant series, I realised that ultimately, this series comes down to three things:

1. Ethan - the perpetrator,
2. Hannah - the victim, and
3. Patrick - the sacrifice & possible saviour.

We can talk about the soul debt, the soul bind, the gods, the vampires, the were creatures, the elves. We can talk about Jono and Patrick, of Wade and Reed, of Sage and Malek and Emma and all things pack. We can talk of demons, of zombies and of all manner of hellish creations. We can talk about the way of worship, of apparent good vs apparent evil, the how of sacrifice, and everything beyond the Veil. We can talk of legend, of legacy, of lore. We know we'll never think of the gods the same way again, and some we will seek to purposefully forget.

But again, it comes down to three things: Ethan, Hannah and, ultimately, Patrick. Because family is complicated, and it's even moreso when godhead's are involved.

The final book in this series is every bit as epic as you think it will be, and nothing will ever be the same.

Brilliant.

A Veiled & Hallowed Eve is the seventh, and final, book in Hailey Turner’s Soulbound series. If you’ve read the prior books, then you certainly need to give this one a read to see how everything comes together.

I’ll be honest and say this series wasn’t quite everything I had hoped it would be. I can admit to the fact that it was addictive, but I never quite felt the connection that I had hoped for. With this last one, we get to see everything from the prior books coming together. In some ways, it was great to see everything connecting. In other ways, it resulted in deus ex machina after deus ex machina. Due to this, certainly elements of the story felt like they were dragging. Moreover, some details felt like they were a way to tick a box to ensure everything from the other books appeared. It took away some of my enjoyment of this one, but I still found it to be an enjoyable enough conclusion to the series.

All in all, this is worth the read if you’ve read the prior books. I cannot label the Soulbound series a favourite, but it was a series that kept me engrossed in how everything would come together.

The hero's journey comes to full circle with this volume and not everyone makes it out alive. It's kind of a bittersweet ending, but the right kind of ending too.

I'm still processing, but it's a good story at the end of a series which kept getting better with each book. Thank you Ms. Turner for an enjoyable ride.

[ETA - 03/13/23] - just like the end of The Dark is Rising: Silver on the Tree, I'm left with tears in my eyes at the end of this series.
