Frayed: Willow Springs Series, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 7,532 ratings

Bad boy football star. Innocent girl next door. Two different worlds. One small town. A million reasons why they should have stayed away from one another.

My name is Adelaide Edington, and my life was mapped out for me before I even entered the world: who I'd date, where I’d attend college, what I'd be when I grew up.

But there comes a time in everyone's life when they face a fork in the road. Should I go left, or should I go right? It didn't matter as long as I didn't remain stagnant any longer.

Jett Stone opened me up to a whole new world, reminding me that it was okay to find my own way. I could have roots in Willow Springs and still spread my wings and fly. What I didn't expect was to fall in love with the broody football player.

The boy I’d known since kindergarten. The boy who I wasn’t supposed to be with—but had somehow become my everything.

This is book one in the Willow Springs series, but it can be listened to as a complete standalone. HEA is guaranteed!

🏞Childhood Friends-to-Lovers🏞Sports Romance🏞Love Triangle🏞Small-Town Romance.“Baby, it doesn’t matter where we are. When I’m with you, it’s all magic.”.Review: This was my first book by Laura Pavlov and it definitely won't be my last! This is book 1 in the Willow Springs series about 5 girls who have been best friends since they were young. If you love Small Town YA Romance then this book is a must for you! Once I started this book, I struggled to put it down. I loved it! This was such a perfect start to the series..Addy is the sweet chearleader whose life is all planned out for her. Her dad is the Mayor and life is good in her little bubble..Jett is the broody high school star football player from the wrong side of the tracks..Addy and Jett met when they were young. She shared her sandwich with him and it left a lasting impression. These two come from opposite sides of the tracks, but fit so perfectly. Addy's life has been planned out for her. From where she will go to college, her career and who she dates. Until her bubble pops and everything she thought, is forever changed. I loved seeing Addy realize her own dreams and that she could go after what she wanted. Addy's character development is beautiful. Jett was the perfect guy to help her on that journey. Jett is looked at as the town Bad Boy, but when you get to know him, he is AMAZING! So protective, caring and loving. Doing anything he can to help his family and working so hard to build a future. He has his own struggles and I loved how Addy helped him get the answers he needed. These two were so cute together and I loved the way they pushed each other and were there for one another. I loved that their friendship developed and the journey it took them on. I could definitely relate to Addy, so I was there cheering her on along the way. I am so in love with this sweet couple both falling in love for the first time. I didn't agree with Addy on some things, but I definitely loved this sweet love story. I'm excited for Gigi and Gray next. Love their banter back and forth.😝

This was a good story. My most favorite character in this book was Clem. At times, Adelaide, not standing up for herself nor her parents standing up for her, was irritating. But overall, this was a good story and kept me engaged.

I won’t give a synopsis because you others already have and I’ll do my best not to give any spoilers. I checked the reviews and mostly everyone talked about how this story dealt with serious issues and the relationship between the main characters is sweet. All true but as it’s a book about teens I wasn’t expecting so much cursing. Yes I know teens curse but it’s my personal preference not to read stories with so much profanity. Also there was at least one intimate scene described not too explicitly but just be aware. I’m not sure if there was more as I skipped ahead to the end after that. I wanted a light teen read and I wouldn’t say this is it. I did like the writing and the characters were all well developed and the storyline was engaging I just couldn’t get over the cursing and explicitness. I don’t mind the serious topics but I prefer clean reads (no cursing, sex etc.) otherwise I’m sure I would have loved this story. I’m sure other people are ok with it but I would have appreciated being warned by either the author or other reviewers.

I really enjoyed this story a lot, despite some of the issues I had with the FMC's mother and the need for another round of proofreading. The book was well-written and the FMC and MMC were flawed but likable. It was hard for me to find empathy and forgiveness for FMC's mom, but I love that the "antagonist" turned out to be a redeemable character. I despise characters who are one-dimensional, so I like that all the characters felt like real people who have both good and bad inside of them.

Addy's Mom had her life including the college she'd attend and who she'd marry all planned out and Addy never went against her. Until once again, Alex cheated on her and her friends finally got thru to her that she didn't deserve that. She also rekindled a friendship with Jett, who was the quarterback and couldn't stand her bf, so he'd drifted away.
He helped her realize that her feelings mattered too. Things began to heat up and she wanted more with him. He just wanted her to make her own decisions. They did a lot of kissing but he wouldn't go further with her yet.
Seeing her blossom with his support and her friends also, was great to see. Watching this attempt to grow into herself, was awesome until it wasn't. Could she get control again or would she let her obligations take over?
Such an amazing story! Can't wait to read about the rest of the girls!

Laura Pavlov writes a disturbing story about misplaced loyalty involving high school students. Adelaide is pressured by her family to continue a relationship with Alec. She broke up with him because he was unfaithful. Both of their mothers were determined that they remain together, even though he repeatedly had sex with Karina. They defended him, indicating he was a teenage boy and what he did was a typical behavior. Addy, called Ace, by a childhood friend, Jett, was considered the town bad boy. Their friendship from elementary school was renewed by being in advanced calculus class. They developed an attraction to each other. Jett was the football teams quarterback and loved by most. Alec also played football and would complain if Jett didn’t throw to him A rivalry ensued between the football players. Alec created multiple situations adversely effecting Ace and Jett.
Read to see how school politics, interference of parents and involvement of friends affected Ace and Jett. Great character development and in depth description of all the teens involved.

This book was so satisfying - not so much for the plot which was quite straightforward, but for the characters, their attitudes and how the author gets everything about what a romance should be for young women so right!

Why have I given this 5 stars? Because it's so refreshing to read about a young relationship with so much respect, to read about a heroine who makes her own choices and is pushed to challenge herself with the support of her romantic partner, and a male lead who is so much more and better than a stereotype. The moment I knew I would rate this 5 stars regardless of whether I enjoyed the overall plot, was when the ex-boyfriend, Alec, tried to have a confrontation with the main female character, Addy, at the school. Rather than the new boyfriend, Jett, jumping in to defend her and things leading to a violent altercation as many books often do, he gave her a head nod from across the parking lot which basically said "I trust you and respect you enough to manage this yourself, but I'll be here if you need me to help." There was respect, healthy boundaries and ultimately the book was about lifting female characters up and showing readers that women can be the heroes of their own stories.

The other characters were amazing too - it was so refreshing to read about a group of 5 high school girls being so supporting of each other without snide comments, insecurities and jealousy. Even the girl who cheats with the ex is treated with a degree of respect by the main female lead and it is acknowledged that she isn't blaming her, but the guy. There was a lot of emphasis on the guy being wrong and having to be the one to own up to his mistakes, and to stop blaming the females around him.

Clem, the sister was fantastic and I would 100% like to see a book about her. What an absolutely brilliant character!

So pleasing to see an author present the female characters in her novel with so much strength and respect. I will certainly read more from this series.

This is a wonderful small town, coming of age, sports romance. Jett and Adelaide are a charming couple that is easy to connect with. Adelaide’s MAGIC willow are the best friends you could imagine and it will be lovely to get to know more about them as the series progresses.
Clem is such a little trail blazer that she lights up the pages she appears on. I really enjoyed the start to this series and learning about the residents of the town of Willow Springs. Hope she gets a book.
